He is under the FINA Qualifying Time which is 48.34.

Swimming Oz QT (SAQT) is based on the 8th placed time at the last Olympics and FINA's (OQT) is based on the 14th placed time.

They also have an Olympic Consideration Time (OCT) which is the FINA QT plus 0.5% as some of the 14th placed times in Tokyo were slower than 14th placed times in Rio.

It would be stupid if they don't let Yang swim the individual 100m given he is going over for the relay and especially if he pulls out a great time in the relay on day 1.
........
Wednesday night I started the spreadsheet below to try and work out who might not get a SAQT but get a FINA OQT.

From the wiki Paris Qualification page
* OQTs correspond to the time achieved by a fourteenth-place swimmer in his or her respective preliminary heat of each event at the previous Games.

ª Because the fourteenth-place swimmer achieved a standard slower than the OQT in Tokyo 2020, the OQT used at the previous Games will remain constant.

^ OCTs are derived by adding 0.5% of the OQT standard.

You can see the depth the women have, compared to the men. There were 3 women's events and 2 men's events where the swimming Oz and FINA times are the same and I've shaded them in green.

Perkins is on the 4x200m relay team, so they should let her swim the 100m Fly given she only missed Swimming Oz's QT by 0.16.

The 100m Breaststroke will challenge the selectors. Ramsay has 3 individual swims and finished 2nd in the 100m and missed SAQT and Fina's OQT but like 1st placed Strauch, achieved the Olympic Consideration Time. They need a breaststroker for the medley relays.

Given Armbuster is swimming the 50m Free it would be dumb not to let him swim the 100m Fly given he missed Swimming Oz's QT by 0.06 but well inside Fina's QT. Same with Yang in the 100m Free and missing the SAQT by 0.02.

Neil will go over for 4x200m Fre relay so given he is only 0.05 above Swimming Oz's QT he should get an individual 200m.

We need a 100m back stroker for the medley relays, so they should let Cooper and Woodward swim that even though Woodward has a 200m back place. Similar with Petric, has a 400IM place so let him swim the 200IM.

The bigger call for selectors, is Galea swimming the 1500m, as he has no other event that he's qualified for.

Its getting harder to defend an individual Olympic swimming title.

The 3 year gap since Tokyo might help in Paris.

There might be quiet a few women who can do it. If Dressel doesn't make the US team or only just makes it and isn't the same sort of swimmer as between 2018-2021 years, then Adam Peatty might be the only male who successfully defends his title. If Dressel is back to his best, then he could defend 2 or maybe all 3 titles.

Not the same person. Alex Perkins came 2nd behind McKeon in the 100m Fly and Jamie Perkins qualified for the 4x200m Relay. However, both have been selected so it’s highly likely they will allow Alex to swim the 100m Fly in Paris.

My bad, I completely forgot that.

Ledecky qualified for her 4th olympics as expected, Titmus trials swim however is much quicker so battle between her an McIntosh for the gold.

Both our men’s 400m swimmers a couple of seconds faster than the US swimmers however they did qualify two spots for Paris. Bibb Finke was 4th.

First event in US trials was a WR in the semi finals of women's 100m Fly to Gretchen Walsh.

Apart from relays, the US trials are the same schedule of events as Paris, with semis for every event under 400m.

I'm no fan of Ellie Cole interviewing swimmers on the pool deck after their swim. Hope they get someone else, and better for Paris.

I imagine - given the results from our trials - Cate Campbell or Emily Seebohm will be commentating. Giaan (thankfully) will be relegated to pool-side interviews. And Ellie will prob only be there for Paras.

Why would Seebohm get the gig? She's never done it before. She's hasn't been that great an interviewee for most of her career. The Olympics is a big gig to make your debut at this sort of thing.

Cate will be asked first. She has done it a couple of times before. If she says yes, she will do a good job.

Cant we get someone else that’s not any of them, and just what we need Cate and Emily cheerleading why not bring the baby in the stands as well while we are at it
