It is about the integrity of the award. If the 28th best player on the field is judged the 2nd best player on the field by the umpires how can we trust the award at all?

Umpires after a game flop exhausted into the rooms, just having a quiet moment until someone sparks up "so who gets the votes" and there is a collective "**** me, I dunno" groan. Quite often its the midfielder with distinctive hair because they're in front of the umpires most of the game, even if someone else has a blinder.

Spot on. My mate was an umpire back in the Chris Grant ineligible year and he basically said same thing. They just get them over and done with to get out of there. Like voting at the elections.

the voting system has jumped the shark, obsession with 'midfielders who are good' is rising worse than the inflation rate.

not a direct attack on Cripps or Daicos, but even the third and 4th lines are close to previous all time highs.

No I completely agree.

It’s like the voting is centred around 2-3 players from each club and then as the narrative builds 1 of those players gets focussed on.

Worst brownlow I have ever seen, awful coverage, outrageous voting, cringey interviews, acting like retired players were players that had passed on.

Cripps is a gun, no doubt about it and has had a fine season, but not a chance he had a season worth even close to 45 votes.
