I'm still steadfast in my belief that we will trade for pick 2.
Cal may have the bat phone to the AFL and the clubs but I'd prefer to approach it from a common sense standpoint.

North need to fill I believe 3 or 4 list spots.
They also delisted Pink only to promise to re-rookie him to open up one of those list spots.
There's also ZERO chance they are filling those list spots via the rookie draft.

Yes, sure, there's every chance another club could facilitate a trade for their F1, but if that was the case, why haven't they as yet?

I'm willing to say that we'll end up with pick 2 and North's F1.
Port lose 13 + 29
Port gain 10 + 62

North lose 2 + 62
North gain 7 + 16 + 47

GWS lose 15 + 16
GWS gain 13 + 20

Richmond lose 10 + 11 + 20 + 23
Richmond gain 2 + 15 + 29

St Kilda lose 7 + 47
St Kilda gain 11 + 23

Port: 10 36 50 62
- Get their earlier pick and another late points pick to match Rome Burgoyne

North: 7 16 47
- Turn 2 and 62 into Tauru, another first rounder, and a good slider

GWS: 13 20 21 37 56 74
- Jump in front of Fremantle; maybe they want Berry/Hotton?

Rich: 1 2 6 15 18 24 29
- Get 2 while keeping 6. Retain 24 to trade for a F1 + ~46 from Essendon

St Kilda: 8 11 23 32
- Turn a 4 pick downgrade (3 in reality, with 8 being theirs) into a ~20 pick upgrade into the first round

To me, the Whitlocks give Todd Marshall vibes. We need a Shanahan, Faul or Gerreyn who can attack the ball in the air and smash the pack.

Also don't mind the idea of Armstrong, he's easily the most mobile of the group. I thought he was short, but he's actually the same height as Jeremy Cameron.

The whole idea that we take a key back is stupid, and has arisen from people who don't watch Richmond play.

We are overwhelmingly shit across the midfield and especially in our forward line. The only part of the ground where we are somewhat close to being competitive is our defense, in particular tall defenders, with Vlastiun, Broad and a group of good role players.

This is also a draft where it's incredibly slim pickings for key defenders, with the only ones being Trainer (who's more of a 3rd tall), Tauru (Who we're unlikely to get), and whichever one of the Whitlocks it is who is more of the defender.

In conclusion, we're absolutely off our heads if we do select a key tall defender, as it's the area we currently need the least help in, and there also aren't really any good ones in first round of this draft.

Yeah Faull's write up in the Rookie Me draft publication, that just come out, sounds like a big need of ours. A CHF who looks suited to pushing high up the wings to help transition, like what Lynch did in his prime but cant do now with injuries

I remember that draft fondly.

It’s been made out like Hawks were smarter than the rest and it turned out that way, but whilst Franklin was a huge talent, he had some major red flags and question marks. I have no doubt if he went to a weak club, he wouldn’t have developed like he did.

What I’m saying, is sometimes you have to look at the data and talent of a kid. Back in your development. Don’t rule out because of one factor when others present so strong. Whilst comparing him to Lance now looks absolutely moronic. Both at the same age?
Lance was a talented sports star as a junior and ended up playing senior footy early. He had been a known talent early on, while on the other hand it is said that Gerreyn is a late bloomer.

Franklin was also a pure forward that used his natural athleticism/footy IQ/aerobic capacity to make it. He was talked about as the number 1 selection during that year. He was going to be a star regardless of where he went. And I’m not sure if you remember, but Hawthorn were just as bad as us during that stretch.

Gerreyn is a bigger body than Franklin and has been used in the ruck. Hasn’t really been talked about as a 1st round selection.

I see a taller, better version of Amarty in the limited highlights I have seen. And look being a late bloomer could be a good thing. even developing into half the player Franklin was would be a success.

If anything, we grab him with 24 and in 1/2 years he replaces Samson Ryan. I’d take that.

ffs why do people spend ages doing this shite stuff? we hold our picks its that simple

Dustin Martin ring a bell man didn’t know how to lift his arms above his shoulders
Do not agree with that take lol. Plenty of highlights of Dusty taking the ball out in front.

Yes the 1v1 wrestling chest marks are there. I’m talking about when Gerreyn is on the lead and taking the ball on the chest. Seems a natural tendency.

If he could fix that and mark out in front, sky’s the limit.

For mine lalor no1 absolutely, interesting the thought of smith sliding to 6 he may well do and offers genuine contrast to what we got and also how lalor plays . If not I reckon Langford is our man , offers versatility that smilie doesn’t have , langers could make it as a HF in mould of caddy with his elite marking and kicking

Has elite HB general written all over him if he fails as a mid. Think Hodge IMO

Dare say even if some deals are agreed to in principle wouldn’t be shocked if the AFL quietly said to the clubs to save it until draft night

Just adds to the spectacle that they are trying to create
Trade"week" was all done at the Brownlow after party

Looking through the Rookie Me Central Draft guide and the only 2 players ranked elite for consistency and ceiling were Ashcroft and Smith, while Lalor & O'Sullivan were rated as average for consistency which is understandable given their interrupted seasons. As far as disposal goes Ashcroft Lalor & Smith were rated as above average, while O'Sullivan was average. For those wondering what the disposal ranking is about, it's not the number of possessions, but how effective the player is in distributing the ball cleanly. So I've got not doubt the FOS fans will be disliking that conclusion given many have stated how good his disposal is compared to some of the other top ranked draftees.

Melbourne pick from Essendon.

Trade 10 to PA for 13 & 29
Trade 6 and 13 to Nth for 2 & F1
Trade 11 & 29 for ESS F1 & Mel F1

2024 picks
1,2,18,20,23,24

2025 picks
Rich F1,Nth F1, Ess F1, Mel F1, Ric F2
Pick 23 and 24 are enough for Essendon's F1 and Melbourne F1. I wouldn't be trading out picks 10 and 11.
