When you have Miller and Young as your key defenders you need some new ones badly. The worst key defender group in the league
I disagree, west coast, north and essendon have worse key defenders than us, Adelaide and bulldogs are also probably equally bad.

We have Vlastuin, Broad, Brown, and Gibcus (if he stays on the park) plus one of Young, Blight, Miller rotates down there.

I have no doubt that at least one of Young, Blight and Miller can eventually develop to be a strong defensive roll player if we back them in to play.

Key defense is clearly currently our most competitive area, we need to invest all our picks into mids, tall forwards and small forwards this year

Balta? Him and a fit Gibcus is a good duo. Probably a 3rd tall required long term post Broad but we've really used late picks to fill this role. Something to look at next year imo.

Throw everything at Cadman next year as well

The club would have a very good understanding of how possible this will be already so it will also play into how we use our picks this year

i agree, Smillie could get to pick 13 even possibly before someone takes a punt, or maybe slightly further

It is just my perspective but Smillies combination might work with youngsters growing but with fully grown males I am not 100 percent of his role and is he too much of a in-betweener??

One could move into different roles but are his traits good enough for those roles competitively to make a difference.

To me he does some things good for a 195cm player but he will be competing against different types with size and in other roles is he good enough? His strengths are almost the opposite of your typical player at that height which is intriguing but is it effective at the highest level?

There’s zero chance Smillie gets to 13. And I’d say there’s a 0.001% chance he gets to 10.

North gunna fold in the last few minutes on trade night for pick 10 & 18 when they realise no one else wants pick 2.
98% chance North don't hold Pick 2 come their pick.

Melbourne no chance to trade for it. Adelaide a small chance if they really think Carlton will take Draper at 3. Saint's could be the other.

North's F1 would be nice, though I don't think there is going to be much value getting mid F1's next year where the draft isn't as deep as this one. Unless we are packaging up for Cadman.

Probably the most polarising and hardest player to place in the draft IMO.

If he had burst speed, he could be no 1.

Elite kick
Elite Mark
Elite leader
Tough
Brave

I have warmed to him and if on the board at 6, I wouldnt be mad if we took him.
Wasn't that why most clubs didn't see Bont as a Top 5 pick in his draft year, except the Dogs saw something (Pick 4).

Langford possesses some very similar traits.

2? I swear your brain deflates during the off season.
You left a couple off the list as well, one who recently signed for 3 years.
You also can't leave Bauer off the list if you have Lefau on the list.
The way you have shaped your argument isn't really fair because a lot of that list is straight up too early to call.
Definitely: Balta, Gibcus, Fawcett, Ryan
Probably: Miller, Young, Lefau, Bauer
Too early to say: Blight, Gray, Hayes-Brown

The rest, I'd say won't be sticking around.
So, maybe, you should be the one taking the good hard look at our KPP stocks considering you couldn't even name all of them.
Which footballer will make it, is guess work.

2023 & 2024 showed me we need multiple quality KPF. I would take the opportunity to draft the best available this draft, We need Naismith cover, Ryan ain't ready & I'd draft one this draft We went DFA for Sam N, might be a good time to draft

Definitely: Balta, Gibcus, Fawcett, Ryan?
For me : Balta's the only lock. Huge qn marks over Gibcus, Fawcett, Ryan in terms of durability & ability.

Probably on the list : Miller, Young, Lefau, Bauer add Brown & Kosi too. But hopefully playing a lot of VFL.

Too early to say: Blight, Gray, Hayes-Brown. How often do mid season draftees & Cat B players make it? Never.

I'd be using picks in the 20s to get KPF & ruck depth. Dodson & or Armstrong

Yeah will be like 2021 when we avoided mids like the plague in the first round because we had Taranto & Hopper coming.

If we pass on Armstrong at 10/11 I'd be fairly confident Cadman is on his way next year.

You might say if we're confident Armstrong's gone by 10/11 and he's the stand out kpf we should do the Norf pick 2 trade and score their f1 to facilitate cadman.

Absolutely
Also if we make any plays for some F1 picks

It will also put us ahead of any of the other potential suitors like Geelong or Collingwood who are unlikely to be able to start stockpiling to make the trade happen

Cadman is gunna cost a mint in both picks and salary
We can have plenty of both very easily

Yep, can't believe I forgot the best player of the whole lot. And I do hope he plays as a defender as well.

Just further proves that if there's one area I wouldn't draft this year, it's a key defender. All other positions are pretty bare.

3 mids, 2 combative key forwards, and 1 small forward then I'm happy

Hopefully we will hold Essendon or Melbourne's F1.

Cadman will be contracted so he's going to cost a fortune but we need hold & use our own pick in 2025.

Cadman / Armstrong one-two punch would be elite though
Need someone who can ruck though. Cadman has done it a bit but if we are offering a 10 year deal and coughing up 2 first rounders I'd probably rather we don't make him do that lol.

Maybe can run with 3 talls I guess.

Has there been any evidence of Cadman wanting to come to Richmond? I've never heard of it until reading on this chat.

Only on us wanting him.

Club would know if he's keen when making the selections. If we don't take a KPF I'd be fairly confident we will be getting him. If we take a couple you would think it's no chance.

Nothing concrete linking him to us but plenty of whispers about him wanting to return to vic

He will be hot property with plenty of potential suitors but given our salary, draft and list positions we would need to be the early odds favourite

At pick 6 I think we should take (in order of preference depending who is there)

Armstrong
Jagga Smith
Smilie

If Armstrong is gone, take Smith/Smilie and pick Shanahan at 10 and then Travalia at 11.

If we take Armstrong at 6, pick best available mid at 10 and Travaglia at 11.
Currently only two teams pick between our selections at six and ten and I can’t see the Saints prioritising a key forward with their picks

I’d take Smillie at six under the educated guess that Armstrong is more likely to still be there at ten

Not advocating trading 10 & 11 For Essendon & Melbourne F1’s. Pick 11 & 29 is for both. Big win. Read it before your respond incorrectly.
I did not say that you advocated trading 10 & 11 for Essendon & Melbourne F1's, but the end result of your trades was that we gave up pick's 10 & 11 and got Essendon & Melbourne and North Melbourne's F1's. My opinion (and its only an opinion) is that picks 10 & 11 in this year's draft are too valuable to be part of any combination of trades for future picks, particularly if those future picks are only likely to be picks 10 or 11 in next year's draft. My second opinion was that pick's 23 & 24 would be sufficient to get F1's. The thing about using picks 23 & 24 is that we cannot lose, at least from a draft points perspective.
