Plan c is Whitlock no?
I think we are on 2 different timelines here.

my plan C was in relation to the point in time when we were chasing King with Cadman as a plan B. The King piece we thought was looking good, Dimma did his thing but by which time plan B (Cadman) had already put pen to paper with GWS.

Not sure we had a plan C at that moment in time hence we have felt a bit light on there.

As for the new / current plan, I would assume one of Whitlock / Armstrong / Shanahan / Faull form parts of plan A, B and C to be honest.

Not suggesting we will take all 4, but that if we don't have plans to trade in for a ready made forward, than odds on 1-2 of those listed above should be ready out on draft night you would think!

The best thing about taking a key forward in this draft is that they can sit behind Lynch for 1-2 years before needing to press for best 22

There’s no way we take Dodson at #24 surely
Why not? He is a high possession very good looking project. Nothing wrong with a young ruck who has promise on our list. Please don’t say we’re going to get one later by trading as that will be an average plodder. Ryan is crap. This kid can mark.

They’re just not worth taking this early. Trade for them when they’re 24 or 25

Ryan gets a bad wrap has come into a side on the decline. Too early to call

All this does for me is highlight how much of our organisation could do with an external review.

With what you describe, it seems like the club thought 2 in the bush was better than 1 in the hand. Even with contracts now meaning two fifths of F all, we really should of had better planning.
I'd take getting 2 in the bush rather than 1 in my hand any day ;)

And you've been on Lalor since the start.

Best laid plans and all that.

Pity we put all out hopes on the one set of trades. When that blew up our structure turned to mush.

I've heard a few times that there are multiple KPFs that look better than anyone this year. So I can see a deal for F1s coming in, and us only going 1 KPF this year. But then you are doing the same sort of gamble - hoping that your great plan comes off. If we do well and our F1's aren't low then we don't get that A grade KPF.

Interesting period coming. How do we see the future vs this year? What are we offered? Will the Bombers bomb? Will North come to the party enough for us to go 2 and F1? Hmmm

I have no idea how it will work out. Smart thing is to .... pick top end mids this year and to pick top end talls and mids next year.

In theory that is absolutely correct and I really hope it plays out that way.

my main fear is that Lynch has played 8 games in 2 years, granted we now have a new fitness team at the helm that hopefully rectifies that!

I did say some were washed up or young.

But plenty of those listed moved in their prime, even if you don’t really rate them, which is fair enough, not all were great moves or moves forced by actions (I.e. fev)

Ottens - 24
Fev - 28
Tarrant - 26
Hall - 24
Cummings - 25
Gehrig - 25
Clarke -25
Dixon - 25
Hogan - 25
Everitt - 29
Vickery - 26
Daniher - 26
McStay - 26
Brown - 27

FWIW I think we will and should take 1 KPF, and I think Armstrong is the best talent, though imo it’s not a huge difference between him and the rest. None of the KPF really stand out and demand to be selected and I don’t think any are close to what cadman produced in his draft year. What I disagree with is the phantoms that have us taking 4 talls (including a ruck), it’s way too many.

Id rather take a Faull in the 20s over Armstrong at 11 and especially at 6. Fix our midfield first as it’s easier to find quality mids than KPF, and in future drafts/trades we can narrow our focus on a KPF.

Wasn’t it Ottens that rang the bell at the 2017 QF?

Cooked. Will be double teamed anytime the pill comes in. Then he’ll get injured again.

Did his job for us. Pay him the coin he earned it. Keep him around for the younger guys.

the draft that was supposedly short on KPPs at the start of the year is proving the opposite.
There’s some good options in the ND , and reckon there’ll be a couple that slip through to the RD.

Yep plenty of tall talent in this draft, but no real standouts. Also hard to judge the dev of talls mostly still growing into their size. Hence the debate here.
We should take a couple based on best talent available and where the club rank.
For me Armstrong @10/11 if avail. Then I’d like a taller FWD/Ruck option J Whitlock or Sims with later picks. Dodson maybe, if we want a pure ruck. Might look like:
1 Lalor
6 Smillie
10 Lindsay
11 Armstrong
18 Hotton/Berry if they slide a few spots
20 J Whitlock or Hannaford/Datolli
23 Shanahan/ Sims/ Faull IF missed talls earlier
24 Dodson or trade for F1

Other team’s picks will likely mess this plan up, damn them! But we’ll do fine out of trades and bolters and sliders.

Be careful posting opinions like this as I've been shouted down when suggesting a very similar scenario.

How nice is it to say later pick......

And that is still a first round pick, or worst case the 1st pick in the 2nd round.
