AFLW Trade, Draft and list changes 2024

Bit different. She joined us as a replacement player for Steph Williams who was put on the inactive list ahead of the 2023 season. She was then delisted at the end of the season without playing a game. She didn't do her ACL with us, that happened after she joined Geelong this year.

What will it take to entice her out of there? it would have to be pretty good reason for a dual club champion to move. Gold Coast did have a poor year but also have a bright future. I could name 6 - 8 on their 2024 academy list that are going to be playing in that team in 2 years time.

It's not just going to be an AFLW top tier contract that entices her and I don't know what Charlie's ambitions are but Mon Conti and Katie Brennan joined us on the back of what Richmond could offer away from football and its worked very well for them. Perhaps it might be similar for Charlie. At the moment she is almost hidden up at the Gold Coast. Maybe that's what she wants but her "brand" could be massive at the right club with the right contacts.

Yes, and Geelong have delisted her as well a couple of weeks ago.

The speed of the game going up a few notches hasn't helped I guess . Grace was never quick. That was never her go. Stats wise 2024 was her 2nd best season behind 2023.

We usually do well out of trades with Gold Coast. Can we trade for Charlie Rowbottom? She is exactly what we need.

Would love that trade -chances are about as good as me dating Bo Derek though (I know, showing my age )

Love to look at those stats in an effective sense, cos that's the rub! It the dead set clangers and howlers that undoes some of her better work. It's just about getting better - not creating an easy target.

Elimination Final: Available players to come into the side.
Courtney Jones, Molly Eastman?, Laura McClelland, Charley Ryan, Charli Wicksteed, Stella Reid, Jemima Woods (now delisted) and Imogen Brown.

Reasonable question, it's not like it was a bad game, it just wasn't a good game either. And if you have to weigh up between Reid and Eastman - I reckon I'm going Eastman on balance - unless there are really important mitigating circumstances we do not know about.

Eastman finished on the bench and was listed as injured. Played 59%

Other thing I noticed in S7 2022 she was the leading possesion winner for Sydney for the year but came 7th in the BnF.

Maybe she couldn’t stay on Tier 3 payments. It’d be pretty tough.
But to make it to the highest level and play 3 seasons is a pretty good achievement.

Think she'll be picked up - again, unless an injury exists.

It's the most important game of the year, not a home and away game.
Apart from Maddie Shevlin with 13, Eastman had 19 points (the lowest on ground). Eastman is 26, so that would have helped.

At only 26, she'll get picked up a depth - I mixed up Jones and Eastman's ages last week, Jones is the one who is 24, Eastman 26.

Yep, the kids who can look beyond footy, and I don't mean when they finish, but beyond the game itself, are the ones who have a chance of building fascinating careers.

KB and her wife Olivia are very successful away from footy. She also puts the team first.

Would it shock if she wasn't on a T1 contract? Nope.

Na couldnt see Eastman being picked up , very unobtrusive player barely ever noticed her , reckon jones would attract a bit of interest for a trade coz she oft bobs up for a goal

I am sure there will be plenty of offers although there are far more lucrative paths than coaching roles in AFLW ranks. One just wonders if she'll give her business interests a full on crack given she has had to compromise while keeping a focus on footy. I think she will stay involved with footy in some way without taking a deep plunge and make more of a commitment to it down the track if the passion is there.

When you look at that Draft of 2021, whilst there have been better players chosen after her, precious few jump out and ask why not me?

I had early hopes for Stella, but wondered if she could develop some speed in her game. Think we now know the answer. She had developed a decent enough combination with Stella kicking to KB whenever she could, but the game seems to have raced passed her, which is a shame because her skill-set was neat enough.

I think personally it was more that she is just incredibly slow

Hence why her numbers drop as the athleticism of her opponents increase

Hopefully Millicent Agboegbulen convinced Tayla to just focus on footy. Some days I say yes for the right deal, other days I say no. Tayla Harris at 27, you wonder how long the AFLW fire is going to burn for. You get the feeling it could go out at any time.

Rumblings that Rowbottom may be gettable. I'm not so sure about that but I'd be very surprised if we're not on it if its true.

Conti is our only Tier 1 player.
KB is probably our other one but didn't earn that status this season.
McKenzie also not yet at Tier 1 level. Needs to improve her fitness big time.
Sheerin is the other player that deserves Tier 1 status.

The likes of Sheerin, Conti, Poppy Kelly, Seymour and Dempsey all looked fit this season, but almost all the others are woefully below league standard.

Yassir, Griser, Jones, Reid, Hicks, Lavey, McKenzie, Miller, Egan, Graham, Hosking all looked well below the likes of Brisbane and the Hawks average.
