I’d say we are a near certainty to grab J Whitlock at 10/11. Reason being he’s on an island as a quality forward / ruck. If we don’t take him here he won’t be at 18.

But other options we may bypass at 10/11 have similar players later … if we miss Allan we can get Hynes. If we miss Berry we can get Datolli. If we miss Shanahan we can get Faull.

But if we miss J Whitlock, there’s no other KPF who could be a quality ruckman at our later pick range.

For this reason i hope we don’t get Allan at 10/11. Assuming we get Lalor and Smillie, then I’d want a different mix of player at this pick … Lindsay, Travaglia, Reid …. we can get Hynes with a later pick who is a similar build to Allan.

Keep in mind Sharp is also 188cm … and maybe growing. I know it’s a long way out, but it seems likely a big bodied kid is coming in 2025 draft also.

Yes definitely. I have a mate that played for 2 different AFL clubs. And can vouch Cal is respected and trusted from the playing group. He has created relationships with players and managers from day 1 in their careers. He definitely gets good intel from clubland

How does Cals form guide change every month when the kids aren't even playing? He makes it very clear that it's not a phantom draft, it doesn't make sense.

Would seem that as interest grows in players his rankings adjust. The Phantom next week is the big one though

Something he seems to know intimately is how much ‘interest’ is shown by clubs in specific players. This info would come from player managers. I’ve got no doubt that he writes favourable commentary on certain players at the request of player managers (or puts them in his phantom drafts), in return for inside info:

Eg. Player Manager A tells Cal that Essendon have interviewed their player 4 times, have met the family, have asked for medicals and so on ….. so nothing as definitive as ‘they’ve committed to them’, but enough info to know which players are in the mix at which clubs.

His info is as good as anyone in the industry and when he releases his draft prediction he’ll get at least 15 of the top-20 correct.

I still think we should just do 6 and 18/20/23 for 2 and take the risk out of it come draft night.
I've maintained this all the way through.

I understand there is similar quality within the range of picks 5 through 8 but why not just pick the two players we actually want at 1 and 2?

North still have list spots they need to fill, outside of the two active picks they currently hold. Something has got to give come draft night and I'd be surprised if it didn't include us.
