Not out of the realms and I feel like it’s probably what we ultimately want. I would say Allen is our Smillie back-up plan at 10, and J.Whitlock is our backup plan to Armstrong.

Tigers FOS @1
North Tauru @2
Carlton Draper @3
Crows Jagga @4
Melbourne Langford @5
Tigers Lalor @6
Saints Allen @7
Saints Reid @8
Melbourne Armstrong @9
Tigers Smillie @10
Tigers J.Whitlock @11

If we take FOS st kilda will instantly make a trade for norths pick 2 and take Lalor

worth a punt if scans are clear, know plenty of people my age that got regularly ko'd in the juniors. its not a death sentence.
But its an end of Football career sentence

New rules coming that place obligation on the AFL are the issue

How many concussions have you had ? or been KO'd ?

Not wrong, but I think your fixation on getting FOS is clouding your view on the draft. In an ideal world landing Lalor & FOS at 1 & 2 would be great if they're clearly ranked the 2 best players in the pool.

For mine, FOS alone isn't as good as 1 of Draper Langford Smith Smillie Reid and 1 of Armstrong Travaglia Tauru Trainor Allan Shanahan Hotton Lindsay Whitlocks Dodson Berry Faull and the like that we'd lose by trading out one of the picks from 10-20, that North would want to give up 2
It's not about FOS.
1 and 2 gives us the option to get the top two players we have on our draft board.
We need top end talent, I don't like gambling in our position.

Forgot about the idea that I want FOS. What I want is completely irrelevant.
I think the club is better served having access to the top 2 draft prospects in the nation rather than speculating at players late in the first round.

At pick 6 where in the box seat either Smith Langford or Tauru there hard decision

At 10 and 11 still best available Smillie, Lindsay , Reid.

On Bo Allan is his disposal a issue

When there's half a dozen potential pick 1s it means even pick 1 is a gamble.

Best way of reducing risk isn't moving up the board, but not putting all your eggs in one basket when none of the baskets are sure-things.

They still rate Lalor as the player we will pick and probably the highest upside

“Lalor is now on the verge of becoming the AFL's newest No. 1 pick. It will be a selection made with upside in mind - the brutish country midfielder has an array of weapons that could help him become the best player in the game. Lalor is freakishly strong through the hips and breaks out of tackles with a casual flick, but also loves to use his strength defensively by laying crunching tackles and bumps. His most impressive traits lie forward of the ball, where he's a nightmare to defend one-on-one with his strength, power off the mark and strong hands. The yellow and black No. 4 guernsey will soon have a new owner at Punt Road”
SOLD. Gee I hope we can find a way to pair this weapon with FOS or Jagga. Faaaark

Draper FOS need to be flipped. Crows balls deep in Draper, surely.

I can’t work out why Smillie is sliding from 8 to 10 in this espn draft?

Says he has potential to be best in class but slots him behind Lindsay and Travaglia? Not like either has a better season than Smillie, averaged 25 and a goal at Coates, and was captain and probably best player of 2 afl academy vs vfl games, the other 2 had better champs, his were just okay.

Writes it off as difference between what he is and what he might be are too far apart?? Even if he doesn’t reach that ceiling he’s already starting from a higher base than Lindsay or Travaglia with way higher scope.

It’s just strange how as Smillie has become the odd man out in this draft. I wonder if he’d had a crack at vfl he would be in contention for 1.

Had a run with nagging injuries, a head knock and illness around the time of the champs and just after when some played VFL. Players with consistent form gone ahead in some ratings, but recruiters who have keen interest will know and weigh up that background.

I get what you're saying but the club has been tracking these players for years. I feel like they have a clear understanding of who the best two players are in the draft that we have access to.

weird question but playing footy at least 3 in juniors. took the freekick 2 of those times, the other got walked off and dont remember shit. not saying its not an issue but fmd hes 18 are we saying he cant play footy ever again because the risks too high? how long has boxing been a sport? mma is quite popular still.

At what cost though?

The suggestion that started this discussion was trading out 6 & 18/20/23 for 2. We give up 2 top 20 talents for 1 that is only marginally better than the player we'd get at 6 and is even lesser value when combined with the 2nd player we'd lose access to at the later pick that will more likely than not be addressing an area of need like KPP/Ruck/Outside Mid/Small Forward

You really dont get it do you ?

Its not about if he can still play footy its about will he be allowed to play if he cops another 3 concussions in the next 3-4-5 years. The rules are changing and the AFL will only get harder on these issue's

Brayshaw can still play footy but it gets to a point where liability is way too much of a risk
I see this as the biggest concern with Trainor

Because they say he's a gamble, "But he doesn't move around the ground well enough right now to be a midfielder and needs to use his height to advantage in the air. What Smillie is, and what he could become, are too far apart to be confident he reaches his ceiling."

So he’s saying the guy who played midfield all year doesn’t move like a midfielder??

By putting Lindsay and Travaglia ahead of them is he saying despite them only hoping to move into midfield they move better?

It’s strange that with no new form or information the espn guy has dropped a smillie behind Lindsay and Travaglia for such a flimsy reason especially with plenty of evidence of Smillie playing midfield.
