McAdam had an interrupted preseason. Never really got going. Decent preseason and we'll see if he's going to be a bust or not. Was expecting more from him.

Doubt it. He has been plagued with soft tissue injuries for 2 years, and he turns 30 next year; I expect him to get worse.

Unless Selwyn Griffith has the healing powers of Jesus (which is doubtful given how he has managed every injury during his tenure) then it will be a ****ing miracle if McAdam plays 15 games next year.

Bailey Fritsch isn't a physical player either so we shouldn't have taken him either?

I prefer physical key forwards but the game is 90% delivery and setup these days there's no physical key forwards actually left.
Fritsch is 6’2. And a lead up type forward who’ll get you one on one with smarts.
Physical and competitive key forwards are the ones you want. Ones that compete time after time. Ones they lack that competitive edge tend to not be all that effective.

What you mean like how Melk and Tmac have looked fitter post 30 than pre 30 at times?

Yeah that's cool, we don't have those and nor do we have any way to get one so you don't just give up on any forward if they're a good price.

Nothing annoys me more than people swallowing Goodwin propaganda. You need a mix of guys who bring different things to the table. We should absolutely be going after Peter Wright if hes fallen out of favour at Essendon, but probably not enough of a competitor for Melbourne. 🧠
Thing is Peter Wright is a competitor, he's makes strong leads and is prepared to hurt blokes getting in his way. Of course we don't need someone who actually leads at the ball carrier. Let's recruit more players that try lead towards goal and get a nice easy over the back no contact ball.

don't know if you watch much Essendon, I do because I have an unhealthy hatred for them. Peter Wright is definitely not a competitor, but he'd be an upgrade on anything we have bar JVR.

Perhaps you're right but I just think he makes good leads and doesn't care who is in front of him. He got suspended earlier this year for that reason. Thing is even if he isn't a competitor he still does something our forwards don't which is lead towards the ball carrier. He also is an actual forward which is an upgrade on playing defenders forwards.

They have been but Melksham is known to be dillegent in the gym, extra sessions, hard trainer and professional recovery. TMac has always had an elite fitness base, especially for his size. They both deserve and have earned the right for their bodies to give back to them post 30.

I don't think McAdam can say the same. Getting by on talent. Most of his injuries scream - lack of preparation, recovery, fitness base etc.

I still hold out hope and think he will be better after a second preseason - mix of him wanting to prove something and club being on him with fitness/start of preseason expectations. Let's hope anyway!

Hes what we've been searching for since Jackson left. A guy who can play both forward and ruck competently. Thats why overlooking Chol was such a brain dead decision, another guy who can play them both competently

Often Hawks will just run Conor Nash in the ruck to give Meek a spell anyway

You are quite right about that. Just looking back through past 5-6 games and there’s games Chol goes to one ruck contest. He’s essentially been a stay at home forward. There are some weeks he may take 5-10 contests. But seems Nash and even Weddle are also being used in ruck.

Instead we went and got Billings, Hunter, McAdam and Fullerton and then played a style that gets the worst out of them 🥳
Somethings gotta give here. You can't have the list manager recruiting blokes who the coach won't play years in a row. Clear disconnect somewhere.

It's very strange, we recruit flakey outside types to play a strong defensive contested style and wonder why they struggle, same goes for Laurie and Bowey as recruits.

All our recruitment since 2021 has been very low risk but three years of this it all starts to add up. Especially odd when we mostly made excellent trades from the start of Goodwin's tenure to the flag.

Fullarton was always a bit of a strange one. Never been played ruck at Lions. Was always a forward. Big bloke but if he can’t ruck the recruitment was pointless given our needs.

The fact we haven’t played him at all is a pretty bad look for our recruiters or Goody. We didn’t give up much but its an absolute waste of a trade.

I dont think there was a single person on the board who knew who he was. So ****ing strange.

Had we already given Schache an extra year by trade week? All round very weird decision (plus TMc and BBB still being listed)
