FJ loves to grab KPP.

2006 - Jack
2007 - Rance & Putt
2008 - Tyrone & Post
2009 - Griff, Arseberry & Grimes

Filled in the flanks in the later draft and with rookie picks.

This build looking similar including the 2 gun mids, and likely to grab another 2 next year.

You'd imagine North will naturally improve with more games for their young kids but realistically when you look at what they bought in to their club versus others around the mark I don't see how they're going to rise much higher than 15-16th.

Norf- FOS, Whitlock (unlikely to play), Darling, Parker, Konstanty & Daniel

Melb- get Petracca and Oliver back more full time, Langford, Lindsay

Adel- cumming, Neal bullen, peatling, Draper, welsh

West coast- graham, baker, owies, allen, Shanahan, gross

Best case for them is finishing about 10th - that's going from 2 wins to 10 wins and a massive step forward.

Pick 9 for 27 and a future 2nd that once academies/FA are done, will be about 30 next year. Nobody is giving up a top 10 pick for 2 picks after 25 so we can't lose this trade.

Realistically I think it'll look like pick 5 for 27&30 with only Essendon, West Coast, Saints and us likely to be on par or below them.

Looking at that you'd reckon North have about the lowest immediate jump in performance. And they still haven't properly addressed their spine issues.

Their midfield is too good to not improve, which makes the team better. But they are an out of whack squad with no obvious reason to jump a heap next year.

If we get 2 top 5 picks then

tom elliot saying laura kane told all 18 clubs that they have to have at least 1 woman in the draft rooms and we just wheeled out ellie mckenzie and another club just brought in one of their female membership workers

fmd this wanka laura kane needs to go

An absolute disgrace. Clubs are only allowed 10 in the ‘war room’. This means most clubs had to leave out of the room a young recruiting team member who’d spent the year watching U18 and school games all over the country …. and they finally get to their big day to celebrate their hard work… and have to sit outside the room while a token female sits in the corner like a naughty toddler.

If it has happened as reported it’s an absolute friggin disgrace that needs to be called out. I’m fuming about what head office is turning the AFL in to.

Run a top shelf sporting competition you flogs, not an on-going education into woke politics and token reverse sexism. 🤦‍♂️

I guess I see this as a high risk high reward draft result.

Lalor = floor very good, ceiling ELITE
Smillie = floor good, ceiling ELITE
Hotton = floor no future, ceiling ELITE
Faull = Floor Solid, Ceiling very good
Trainor = Floor Concussed, Ceiling ELITE
Armstrong = Floor Solid, Ceiling ELITE
Sims = Floor ?, Ceiling Good to very good ruck forward
Alger = Floor solid, ceiling very good

Balance (including duplicates where they play 2 positions)
3 mids
3 tall forwards
1 tall back
1 ruck
2 small forwards

So a lot of talent, the spine looks good to elite. Great midfield core. So much élite level talent. Lots of risks in some players

Very much as Blair said this is about picking a premiership team. So he's gone for high ceiling first and then manageable risks.

It can go very wrong this draft - with multiple players just being wasted.
But the level of talent is amazing 4 * top 5 level talents, 1 more top 10, then the rest first round quality. Just WOW!

Absolutely don’t want to post negatively at the moment, we’ve had a beyond terrific draft, but funnily enough we have way too many key forwards on the list now. Who would have ever thought we’d ever be in this position after so many years of crying out for 1 key forward. Does Sims project closer to a ruck that can go forward than a forward that can chop out in the ruck? Happy to be educated on this, I don’t know Sims well enough. Easy to say he can replace Samson, but he’s under contract for another 3 years. At the moment he’s our back up ruck for the foreseeable future.

Fawcett kind of has to be delisted next year. He's a low pick and we’ve just drafted 3 from important draft positions. Seems very harsh.
Think we've come too the conclusion Sampson if he comes on it'll be as a Ruckman.
Probably the reason we didn't take Dodson and instead went for Dim Sim in the view of a Ryan/ Sim ruck combo.

I never envisaged us going so tall. However I think our talls bring different skill sets, so overall we’ve ticked a lot of boxes. Trainor for example, could be a very good running option of hb
1 big hard at it kpf the other more a 3rd tall lead up type.
And then the perfect 2nd ruck/kpf.

Also realistically we have 3 drafts to fulfill all our list néeds, I am warming to Blairs strategy of getting the book ends in place, because talls always take longer.

I dont think we would have if the draft wasnt so Tall heavy after the top 10.

Mate we had a literal child in the room for Pick 1. I doubt anyone really missed out.

I was scoffing at all the mock drafts that linked us with so many talls, 2 tops I thought. How wrong I was!!!
But as I said, I’m warming to it, because I know we’ll have multiple drafts to fix other list needs.
It’s a good point you make, after the top 10 there was just so many good talls.

its a shame none of our draftees will play for 3-4 years

Same, but makes sense, build the spine first.

FFS mate, I know :(

One really exciting aspect for me is that most of these kids have played footy together at some point so have already got a head start in developing that kind of 6th sense that players develop when they play a lot of footy together

In our flag years we saw it all the time with Sheds, Jack, Cotch and Dusty when they would handball or kick instinctively knowing where the team mate will be

It’s not something that can be taught but only developed by putting game time together
