I was scoffing at all the mock drafts that linked us with so many talls, 2 tops I thought. How wrong I was!!!
But as I said, I’m warming to it, because I know we’ll have multiple drafts to fix other list needs.
It’s a good point you make, after the top 10 there was just so many good talls.

We missed out on the better small forwards with later picks with Hannaford, Dattoli etc going. We just took the value that came to us. Probably 1 too many talls but they all compliment each other and 1 will probably be a bust tbh.

We got one pick like everyone else based on our ladder position and the rest we traded for? What exactly is wrong with the system? Do they not want us to be allowed to trade for draft picks because of recent success?

I never envisaged us going so tall. However I think our talls bring different skill sets, so overall we’ve ticked a lot of boxes. Trainor for example, could be a very good running option of hb
1 big hard at it kpf the other more a 3rd tall lead up type.
And then the perfect 2nd ruck/kpf.

Also realistically we have 3 drafts to fulfill all our list néeds, I am warming to Blairs strategy of getting the book ends in place, because talls always take longer.

I see what they did. So many first round worthy talls. So they just built a spine up front. Add in 2 big strong angry talented mids and you have the core of a contending team. Hotton and Alger = speed, crumbing and skills. Not what I was expecting. But if we get 2 top 5 picks next year we complete the midfield. Then 2026 is getting best available.

And we cna FA to fix any issues.

I suspect our FA dreams for the next few years are gone now. We have enough talented talls, and will get the mids. So the $ will go on buying draft picks.

If our mature guys can stay fit then we might have a slow burn but very effective build. Bit terrifying if we get this right. So much talent and we're just stockpiling it into a solid core team (if fit). Lovely

Filled in the flanks in the later draft and with rookie picks.

This build looking similar including the 2 gun mids, and likely to grab another 2 next year.

FJ liked upside 05-09

Edwards, Cotchin, Martin, JON (although was he an FJ or March pick?), Conners, Peterson, Gourdis, Troy taylor

Then 10-13 went on this weird solid role player kick

Conca, Bachelor, Bellis, Vlastuin, Lennon, Arnot, Kmac, Gordon

14 was Cellis as safety then it was just speed after that Menadue, butler, drummond etc..

Then 15 onwards (I think 16 was FJs last year as head recruiter) the club went back to high upside

Rioli, Bolton, Balta, CCJ, RCD, Dow, Gibcus etc..

It wasn’t my dream draft but impossible to fault our picks at basically each point given who was available. 14 for Faull might be the one as Allen, Berry, Reid, Hannaford, Oliver but fair to hope one slips.

Nice to see GWS finally drafting flankers though, instead of trying to pigeon hole inside mids to the flank.

I guess I see this as a high risk high reward draft result.

Lalor = floor very good, ceiling ELITE
Smillie = floor good, ceiling ELITE
Hotton = floor no future, ceiling ELITE
Faull = Floor Solid, Ceiling very good
Trainor = Floor Concussed, Ceiling ELITE
Armstrong = Floor Solid, Ceiling ELITE
Sims = Floor ?, Ceiling Good to very good ruck forward
Alger = Floor solid, ceiling very good

Balance (including duplicates where they play 2 positions)
3 mids
3 tall forwards
1 tall back
1 ruck
2 small forwards

So a lot of talent, the spine looks good to elite. Great midfield core. So much élite level talent. Lots of risks in some players

Very much as Blair said this is about picking a premiership team. So he's gone for high ceiling first and then manageable risks.

It can go very wrong this draft - with multiple players just being wasted.
But the level of talent is amazing 4 * top 5 level talents, 1 more top 10, then the rest first round quality. Just WOW!

This is what it takes. Dusty was high risk he could have chop sticked some woman. I love it.

Considering we had no functioning forward line for various reasons and were absolutely destroyed in the air around the ground this year it meant our smalls were never going to overcome such a deficit without Arial firepower for support.

These trades make sense go for the two gun mids and considering Taranto and Hopper grew up with a draft laden talented midfield they will provide the perfect conduit for these players development.

Tom Lynch if his body holds up he has a mean competitive streak that Faull and Armstrong will thrive on.

We could be running a tall mobile wing set up next year or at least have some pieces to do such.
