watching all the club videos of the draftees and i do have to say i got a little bit emotional watching these kids most of them are mates and played together you can already see a bond and we will not have any go home factors or will they be enticed by other clubs to leave
we have drafted very smartly i believe this will make our rebuild go faster and exciting

Felt the same way mate, loved hearing it. Armstrong got picked and his mum said your with Taj. Trainor in the car with Hotton talking about Armstrong. Lalor and Smillie talking about playing together prior to the draft. Faul talking about Armstrong working well together.
These kids are already tight and it's exciting to see, I have a good feeling about them.

All of our picks on night 1 apart from Armstrong were in the AFL academy so real tight already. Watch the 2023 futures game as most of our kids are playing. Hotton absolutely dominated the game in the 1st half (gave Lindsay a bath) the same way Bolton did on Punt Rd years before.

Tell me though, if we hadn't have traded 23 as part of the exchange for F1 would we have used it? Obviously, yes. So it was collateral in the trade. It was an asset that we had but we now don't.

Therefore, it has to be factored into the cost of purchasing F1

Liken it to buying a house. We sold our house (Rioli) and got a great deal where we purchased 2 more from the proceeds (6 & 23) A fantastic deal however has presented itself for not much cost and a 10 month settlement (Norf's F1) We want this house but want to keep the best one from our original sale (pick 6)

To fund the new house purchase (F1) we have to sell one of the houses we got in the original sale (23) as well as taking out a loan (F2)

Just because we got the 2nd house (23) in the original sale it doesn't mean that it doesn't exist as being part of the cost of buying the bargain (F1)

If you isolate the trade for roos f1 like that, then Rioli isn't part of the collateral for the trade. It was simply pick 27 + f2 for their f1.

Simply put, we started with Rioli & a bunch of late picks 50+, & through some miraculous trading and negotiating & drafting, that has been converted to Smilie + about 2/3rds of the capital for a likely top 5 pick. It is more or less like getting about 1.5 top 5 picks for 28yo Dan Rioli. With no salary paid. It is a stunning result.
