I recall around 2011-2016 era an associate constantly telling me North, Blues and just about everyone else had out-recruited us, our drafting was shit. I reminded him of that a few years ago deep in our dynasty. He tried to claim he had only been joking to needle me.

The Blues probably actually believe they have the best player to fit their needs, which they rightly see as immediate. Let's see how clever the pick looks 10 years down the track.

It is one of the things I love about Blair Hartley. He doesn't complain, doesn't explain, and never gloats. He knows it will be many years with a lot of trials and ordeals before we can truly judge the value of any of these picks.

He did allow himself a little shit-eating grin when he closed the North f1 deal though, just for a second or two.

It is interesting this for Blues. They desperately needed a clever mid. But they equally need decent quality small forwards, a key defender to support Weitering, and some other areas as well. But they have wiped themselves out of 2 drafts to get Smith.

Sounded during the season like Mitchell decided to warily embrace it but you could tell it wasn’t the plan. It was something that grew organically and he relented and went with it.

I will be surprised if it stays the same next year. Seems some guys were getting a bit ahead of themselves.

Although the club (publicly) backed in the players, the no show by Ginnivan and Watson for the kids training camp after a night on the piss (it seems) would have been a line in the sand I reckon.

Cotch is a sloucher. Lalor definitely no more when you see pictures next to Smillie and our forwards from night 1. He is dwarfed by them.

Perfect height for a mid/forward but so is Taranto and Hopper who same height 187/188
