I’ve completely reassessed my opinion on this year’s draft.

Outside of the two Tassie boys, there is next to no inside/balanced midfield depth.

That’s going to make this draft rather shallow in a sense, in that a lot of the KPP talent will go early.

There is some decent wing, HBF and HFF depth, but they’re not really positions we need to look at.

And if we can’t trade our future first round pick (because of potential rule changes), we’re going to drafting from the third tier of KPP’s.
O’Sullivan looks ok, but seems like a classic case of choosing the open draft.

And Read.

They’re going to have a lot of quality KPP’s.

Oh right, yeah. Damn, that is a fantastic haul. We might be better off trying to target a key from them that's on the outer if our draft choices are going to be limited. Chol got any interest in leaving?

Who do you like from that group? Would Schoenmaker be there or is he a bit higher? I like Caddy but at his size he'd want to put on a lot more mass. With Rayner able to play third we really need someone that can present as a second key once Joe is ready to retire.

Had a pretty good year laster but probably not the right age bracket for us anyway. Would most likely be in the reserves for us then too old when we need him.
There are few players more flaky and inconsistent than Chol. As an academy product I was invested in him doing well. He's athletic and strong but I can't see him ever being worth a spot on our list

I watched a few minutes here and there of the game and Jed Walter looks a hell of a prospect, any chance he trumps Harley Reid and is bid on at pick 1 by the Eagles?

We are pretty light on at both ends of the ground with KPP though. With Gunston looking like a bit of a bust in replacing McStay, there is possibly a spot available straight up as a ruck forward, or at least next cab off the rank. I think Chol is worth considering tbh.

Caddy is potentially top 10.

Have seen much of Schoenmaker to have an opinion on him.

Ollie Murphy and Wil Brown, both from Sandringham are worth a look.

There must be some danger that they might only get 3 or even 2 of these players?
What are the rules exactly for the amount of academy picks in the Top 20 that Gold Coast can match though cause I heard somewhere that if Gold Coast make finals (you know they won’t though given their recent history), they could only match 2 academy bids and hope for their lives sake the other player is still on the board by then.

lol I'm seeing that looking through the rankings on the Draft board now. No wonder he looks good. Made me realise how little I know about this year's kids.

So many of the good prospects from this really strong Allies team are tied to the other Academies. None from the Lions...

Don’t worry about this year, I hear that we will be drafting someone very special next year and he already has a massive connection to the club already :shoutyoldman:

He did look good today again. There was one passage through the corridor in the second with him linking up and he looked exactly like his brother.

It'll be like "Daicos", "long handball to Daicos", "moving through traffic, intercepted by Ashcroft" "handballed to Ashcroft with running support from other Ashcroft"..

So who are the best talls likely to go in the second round? O'Sullivan around that mark?
He’d be mid first round.

Possibly the Sandringham boys. Will Brown and Ollie Murphy.

Will Patton from SA as a third tall defender.

I like Coen Livingston from WA as a full forward option. Has a bit of aggression about him. He is a Eagles nga prospect though.

For some reason I thought O’Sullivan was an Academy kid, tied to us but living and Schooling down in Melbourne?
Not sure where I got that from?

Thanks Briz, I'm doing a bit of a sweep of the draft board and media sites this morning. Seems O'Sullivan has been jumping up the rankings in the last month or so. Patton has dropped along with W Brown who are described more as third talls (Brown a tall mid also), which could balance our list quite well as we have availability at either end for that kind of player.
