Even though we have 2,600 points, when the Levi, Kako & Lombard comes out before Marshall, our remaining pick points go up in the draft, and we should have enough for Marshall.

We do have enough points if Ashcroft goes at 2. We dont have enough if Ashcroft goes 1.

I haven’t looked at the math yet, but I’m not counting on that yet.

I’m not even sure on how many picks we’re able to take to the draft. Is it 5 or 6.

Just had a quick look at the draft order. My initial guess is that Essendon will probably look to trade their first two picks for future picks and then use their later picks to match the Kako bid.

If that happens, Neither GC or Essendon will be using a heap of picks in front of our current picks. They’ll mostly be using picks around or behind our current 5th pick.

Again a quick look and guesstimate, I expect we’ll have to use 4 picks to match the Ashcroft bid. First pick moves up to where the bid is made, second and third picks are used up completely and shuffle to the very back of the draft, and fourth pick is partially used up and generates a residual pick in the 50’s.

The Lombard and Kako bids might see our remaining 3 picks move up 3 spots, but our current picks 49 & 60 move up an extra 2 spots because of the Ashcroft bid, so we might have picks 44, 50 & 55 to match the Marshall bid.

I think that gives us ~820 odd points to match a Marshall. So we should be good.
