The more I see of Gallop the more I am impressed.

A competitive beast. Loves to tackle. Quite agile for a big man.

Conole summarises him well: Ty is a powerful, competitive key position forward whose skill set is well matched for the role - strong hands, reads the drop of the ball well, and presents with purpose at the ball carrier.

Watched his highlights posted here - thanks - and what really stood out to me was the way he brings other players into it. Always looking for a handball target, or sees a team mate in a better possy and clears a path for him.

I am as excited about him as our other 2 draftees.

One of the gun midfielders in the crop for next year, Annable already has already proven his qualities. He dominated as a ball-getter for the Lions' Academy in the Coates Talent League this year, averaging 28 disposals and six tackles whilst also averaging 20 disposals playing for the Allies at the national carnival. He uses the ball well, has great game craft and is able to ferry the ball out of contested situations with his hands. Brisbane has another talented Academy product on the horizon.

Would Annable be the first example of a highly rated junior from Brisbane that wouldn't have vivid memories of the Lions struggling? He would have been 11/12 in that 2019 season when Brisbane first started playing finals again so he'd definitely have memories of what it was like before that season, but they wouldn't be as front of mind as those he would experience over the next 5-6 years. My understanding is that you've got a few more highly rated academy members coming through in the next few draft classes as well.

The reason I ask is because it seems like we're getting close to a point where local juniors coming through in Brisbane only really remember the Lions as a team that wins regularly. It's the much talked about 'generational change' that could be about to occur in Brisbane with this next crop of talented juniors coming through who are proud to support the Lions and dream of pulling on the jumper one day. That's huge for the game in Queensland if it's true.

Think there might be a few more highly rated juniors coming through as well - Rafter, Boothey, Bridge. These are kids that have a ton of really positive childhood memories associated with the Lions and very little bad memories. A golden generation, if you will.

The question is - how long does a team need to stay towards the top of the ladder for a generational change to occur? We're six years into this run for Brisbane and it doesn't look like stopping any time soon. I'd guess a decade of success would seal it, if not a year or two before then.

I think the cap situation at Essendon had some merit (couldn't have happened to a better club IMO), but IIRC, he was offered a deal at Essendon, and he/his manager (Pickering) got greedy and wanted more. Seem to recall the $$$ he signed for with us was less than that original offer from Ess in the end.

Unfortunately, we lost Cupido in the same deal. He could have been anything if he was kept on the straight and narrow......

The one funny thing about us acquiring Caracella at the time was Eddie having a season long meltdown about it due to his belief that the COLA or equivalent we were getting at the time was funding us getting premiership players from opposition clubs and not going to existing players. Good times.

Why wouldn't you be. The best list in the comp just got better. Yeah we lost Daniher and that's a big blow but the draftees plus the injury returnees are all massive talents, some of them proven. Our list management team will be highly sought after when their contracts come up.
