I agree, but the reality is even dumber than that. It’s actually not officially called “Round Zero”. It’s called “Opening Round”. That’s right, Opening Round.

I literally prefer the term “Round 0” over Opening Round. We now have Rounds 1 to 24 and “Opening Round” as the H&A season :rolleyesv1:

“Who won in the Opening Round?”, “You mean Round 1?”, “No, the other Opening Round”. Unbelievable.

All been done before.
In 1982, we played our round two fixture v Fitzroy on March 20.
March 27 signified round one when we played North Melbourne after which we were sitting at 2-0 after round one.
Round two came on April 2, when of course, we sat on our arses.
Our standalone March 20 clash was memorable for being the Richmond debut of the legendary Noel Mugavin.
Phil Egan also debuted.

The biggest loser

It appears the AFL don’t expect Richmond to contend; the club has no Friday night matches and only one Thursday night clash, other than their round one game against Carlton.

The Tigers play at Norwood Oval in Gather Round and have to venture to GMHBA Stadium to play Geelong. They have also been handed an away game against Collingwood at the MCG and play at Marvel Stadium in rounds 21 and 22. They play outside Victoria seven times.
since when do they do 2 away games in a row against colonwood ?

never seen that happen before

I didn’t even know it was done before or that it ended up something significant tbh, but I like systematic numbers for rounds. It’s easy to follow.

Having all rounds but one have numbers just bothers me for some reason

Last time we played Adelaide in Melbourne was 2021. Imagine if the pendulum swung the other way and they didn't get to play us in Adelaide until the 2028 season, their heads would explode.

Every year without fail we play Adelaide and Port over there. Their vs our home game discrepancy is absurd.

Also weird that we get Geelong in Geelong. Not too fussed about it but for equality, they should start having to play Hawthorn in Tassie to make up for it as clearly it isn't about crowd sizes anymore.
Hmmmm, I reckon the fact we have had to play on your ground every year as a 'home' game is reason enough for us to host a game....once

You played us at G because you wanted the revenue, now that you have a 40K stadium you no longer want to play us at the G for home games. Don't try and twist it any other way.
