Not going to get over the beat Marbel Arch copped in the last for a while.

Jumped and landed exactly where i thought it would 1 out 3 or 4 back. Lost its position and came into the straight last on the fence.

Ran into backsides all the way up the straight and got beaten by under a length 🤮

I was on it as well. Vomit inducing....

Moreira goes close to winning on Soulcombe if he takes the runs as they present rather than having a predetermined idea of which horse he should be tracking, thought he would have learned a lesson there

Overall this is not a race I'm bothered in micro analysing too much. Strange results happen sometimes. Weak edition, poor rides, track favouring certain parts, a lot of horses underperforming and overperforming from their level that won't hold up.

Just going to put it in the that was ****ed box and moved on
How much does having the extreme roughie win work into the overall mood of this thread - not only this race but the overall ''vibe'' of the MC

Say what you want and I’m probably taking out of my pocket but Kah lost that. Was on the fence all the way then let’s Zardozi come up the inside, if she didn’t know fence was hot then she’s an idiot, she then has to go 3 wide around turn, running in quicksand, then the winners come down the inside of her, Zardozi even staying on even though she can’t run the 2 miles….

Great story for the winner but awful day on the punt. A reminder not to spend too much time researching these things throughout the year when anything can happen on the day.

Pretty confident Buckaroo and Absurde (my futures tickets) could have been in the finish with better luck / rides (and barrier for Buckaroo) but not to be. Regardless of the luck in the straight, how on earth was Absurde in the last quarter of the field from barrier 6!?

At least most on here are coming of a big 2023 with WAF.

Thanks to regular contributors to this thread over the last few months, in particular Jug for his rankings. See you all next Spring.

If Zardozi stays one off the fence Absurde goes close to winning but as she tired she drifted back to the fence and blocked Absurde.

well, im still pretty bitter to be honest. Just a dog shit cup. 1st and 2nd both beaten a combined 21 lengths the start before. How on earth can you pick that.
Massive run from absurde which was my top pick, buckaroo goes close if it didnt have to grab a hot dog in the stands on the corner.
oh well, very big let down if you ask me. Feeling very flat after that, all the research and replay watching fellt like it was just for nothing.
Annoying because I had a small each way bet on knights choice in the bendigo cup because i thought it was a sneaky roughie, and it didnt have much luck in the straight but stepping up from a g3 to a g1 I just didnt think it had the class.

not sure if anyone else has said it but I think land legend was a big run as well, still wanted to over do it for most of the race, but yeah if it could actually settle, it goes very close. It just gassed out in the last 200.

funny because I said a couple times it feels like a bit of a prince of penzance kind of year but at least when you look back PoP ran a close 2nd in a MV cup that broke the track record. Bloody knights choice 2 starts back in the CC is about 17 lengths from the winner.

oh well, rant over.

Buckaroo 6-10 wide from second last trying to loop them. I expected better tactics then that rubbish.

Magic Man shat himself after his debacle last year and decided to go via the carpark. Can Aussie trainers please stop putting him on decent horses. 2 horrific MC rides in a row. Probably gets the hattrick next year.

The Monday morning quarterbacking to say post race she should have stayed on the back of the horse that was a road block in reverse for other horses up the straight rather than come around them and hit the front and look the winner at the 300...

Up there with one of the worst jockey blames I can remember lol. It wasn't even a bad ride or an average ride - it got a brilliant ride and looked the winner but the horses is a one paced grinder and thats why he plugged to the line not because he was in "quicksand"

Not really. Last year you couldn't have had enough on WAF. It's racing for you.

and Gold Trip the year before was a pretty good fill up for most. The year before that pretty sure Paris and others cleaned up with Verry Elleegant too.

Toys out of the cot we should all just give up because it's a chook lotto is a bit of an overreaction to a race that has been pretty fruitful lately

You could say that about any of the faves out the back that went carpark instead of riding for luck in the fast lanes like Robbie.. it seems like none of them saw the track bias inside.

Okita was huge. Got to the front a long way out and was oh so close.

Warp Speed is a interesting watch. Was peeling out, then changed his mind late for a run inside. If he stays wider he doesn’t run a place on that track, but if he does go inside earlier he wins. Also gets held up late which cost him the margin in the end.

Sea King from barrier 1 to last in the first few strides was a hard watch.

Onesmooth inside gate to 3 wide is nearly the poorest run of the race.

Vauban basically ran as I expected and not good enough in that sized field or racing conditions as it showed last year.

Absurde was great and could have won the race with a bit more luck. Huge run.

Buckaroo gets a lot closer on a fairer track and the magic man played the percentages by going wide from that position.
