I mean, he has a point IF Jackson is only a ruck. Darcy is injury prone and having two out and out rucks on 1.9m (no idea where he got that from) is risky tstl, but...

FFS Kane, have you not seen Jackson play forward and midfield??!!!

Has he seen him play in the ruck? Literally the only good thing about Jackson in the ruck is his ability to be an extra midfielder - his actual ruck work is not actually good enough to be no.1 ruck.

I could probably say the same thing about last year’s All Australian ruck though tbh. Both players are obviously still very effective in terms of their overall impact on the game.
Came across this from Montagna today. I swear he was the only person who actually watched Jackson play last year.

100% Montagna is a beast in the media. Actually get the impression he watches, and takes notice, of every team. Doesn't just parrot the same crap everyone else does (like the host).

He really does seem to be the only decent thinker in the media.

There are plenty of good thinkers, but they don't watch the required volume or don't pay attention. Montagna is one of the very few.

I really like Joey but cannot stand Jay Clark so this is a tough battle

Kane's going to bang on about the Darcy contract for the next 6 years.

He hates long contracts so whenever Darcy goes down it will be a told you so moment for Kane.

Pretty sure Joey Montagna works for freo on a part time basis in Melbourne. He certainly was a year or two ago anyway. I remember a few clips where he acknowledged he was a dockers insider when commenting on us. So makes sense that he would be a lot more informed about freo.
Jay Clark is just a Collingwood hack really.

Carlton mate told me that Sam Walsh's injury is worse than first thought and he will need surgery. Apparently has to go under the knife.

Poor bloke.

I'll be the one - what was so great about that Montagna analysis? Was it just that he says we could be around the bottom of the eight (which is true), that makes it so insightful?

When he was posed the question as to whether the Darcy/Jackson combo will work or not. And he pointed out that it very clearly worked in '23.

This is the aspect that’s really going to shit me - 1st injury since signing and kanes been all over it.(along with a few other minions who’ve parroted the same rubbish

We’re basically going to have to hear the preaching like a broken record every time Darcy gets injured ,which unfortunately is always at least a couple a times year

Your second paragraph is exactly why Kane has a point - Darcy has a history of missing games, so a long contract on big money is a big risk (or quite possibly not real smart).

It kind of depends on what sort of money he is on, and generally the media has a pretty good idea.

Since Sandi has retired, Darcy has played 72 out of the possible 86 games. That’s over a 4 year period. Even that’s heavily affected by ‘23 which was his worst year for injury, missing 8 games. Gawn and English have missed a similar amount over that time.

I don’t mind those that didn’t like the long contract before this injury but I don’t really see how a 4 week injury should be too worrying.
