Most likely within Freo there is no discussion. It's just Kane and Suma on the outside who have decided that it should or is happening and keep writing the same article/having the same discussion.
Wouldnt Darcy have asked for a trade in his end of year interview if he wanted to leave no?
So it shouldn’t be a consideration this year anyway.

Suma does have a point about getting him committed before next year though. Otherwise we will lose him as a FA. We won’t be able to match any deals without blowing up our cap.

From Darcy’s perspective I don’t see the benefits of re-signing now. It could end up better for him but only in scenarios which involve a ****tonne of hindsight.

Sumich hasn’t been right about anything except things that the whole footy world knows about.

There’s zero noise about Darcy except coming from him. Kane Cornes is saying we should trade Darcy, not that we will - It’s a pretty big difference. One is giving his opinion, the other is making up rubbish. Some would say Cornes’ opinions are rubbish though lol.

At least there is a modicum of merit to what Cornes is saying.

I guess it all depends on how quickly Knobel develops. I don't see Jackson as a first ruck, not yet anyway, but if Knobel is ready in a year or two and we keep Reidy, it isn't unthinkable that we trade Darcy if the price is too high. We certainly need to keep Darcy for next year though.

Unless Darcy is incredibly homesick I can’t see why he’d turn his back on $800k per year and the opportunity to finish what he’s started here. If I’m him I’m 100% waiting until next season to make a decision but I can still only see him leaving if we regress again next season and he can’t see premiership potential in the group.

[PLAYERCARD]SEAN DARCY[/PLAYERCARD]

74: SEAN DARCY

FREMANTLE, 25

$650,000-$750,000

Darcy signed a two-year deal in 2021 and is currently working on a long-term extension which would give away his 2024 free agency rights. While Darcy has often been linked back home to Victorian clubs, he has remained loyal to the Dockers and given stalwart service.
What do you think of SEAN DARCY's ranking?

[PLAYERCARD]CALEB SERONG[/PLAYERCARD]

73: CALEB SERONG

FREMANTLE, 22

$650,000-$750,000

Serong signed a four-year contract extension announced on Christmas Day 2022 which ties him to the Dockers until 2027. Along with Andrew Brayshaw, Serong represents the heart and soul of this year’s Dockers midfield.

LUKE RYAN

72: LUKE RYAN

FREMANTLE, 27

$650,000-$750,000

Ryan signed a four-year extension in December 2022, with the 2020 All-Australian locked away until the end of 2027. Ryan deserves all that money given his consistency and spectacular right foot which sets up countless attacking thrusts.

I disagree. He is a top 5 ruck in the comp minimum (I'd have him at least top 3). There's a lot less room for growth in his reputation than there is reduction in it through a potential bad injury. It seems to me like a marginal gain vs substantial loss risk/reward if he leaves it until next year.

Not having a shot at you personally, but this article has been proven to have as much integrity and respect as the MRP.

I think a key figure in Sean Darcy at Fremantle is Aaron Sandilands. I don't know if anyone notices but Aaron used to have the guys over for a bbq for team building, Sean lived with him for a while and when the team was struggling his first move was to have a bbq like his mentor.

I think Sean will talk to his dad and he will talk to Aaron and if both of those two men suggest to him that the Fremantle Dockers are where he is best based, he won't be going anywhere.

As a side note, those three Sandilands girls are going to be some of the safest humans on the planet growing up with all of the giants looking up to them like older brothers.

Just typical FREO that Aaron never had any sons I bet if he played for Geelong Aaron would have had 3 sons

Not necissarily. That would just indicate he hadn't decided to go yet. I don't pretend to know how other clubs are approaching this.

I'm sure we are trying.

Oh yeah, Sean Darcy attempted to cook a surprise meal for Aaron and his wife while they were out, and in the process dropped and smashed a full bottle of fish sauce. Aaron came home and wanted to know what the terrible smell in his kitchen was. Took ages to clean up. Sean was mortified. 🤣

Just so everyone knows, these are just estimations/guesswork from the herald sun

They can be completely wrong, just ask Max Gawn
That may be true but I wouldn’t think those figures are too far off for our lads.
They seem pretty reasonable estimates. We are spending $13.2 million or so on our total player payments each year so someone has to be earning decent money in that range.
I think the rule of thumb for each list is that about 8 players are earning $600k or more on average on each list.

$14,700,000
Average player on the freo list is earning $334,000 then.

In that case the figures in the HS for our players are likely to be spot on. Darcy Serong and Ryan would deservedly be in our top 6 or 7 earners

There’s a lot of players on the list earning rookie wages or well less than $330k I would say.

If I break down the total structure of player payments league wide and present it as though all teams will carry the same structure then:

20.76% of our list is making under $200,000 (9 players)
19.2% of our list is making between 200 and 300k (8-9 players)
16.6% of our list is on between 300 and 400k (7-8 players) - median point in here.
14.5% is 400 to 500k (6-7 players)
10.8% on 500 to 600k (4-5 players)
5.9% on 600 to 700k (2-3 players)
4.9% on 700 to 800k (2 players)
3.6% on 800 to 900k (1-2 players)
2.29% on 900 to 1m (1 player)
1.8% above 1m (0-1 player)

Half our list needs to be playing each week, with basically every single player above $400k a year playing every game possible. I think you can make the case that a side can afford to pay it's depth between $200,000 and $300,000 a season.

Sounds about right. I’d imagine the highest earners at Fremantle in 2023 are
Fyfe - over $1m
Jackson and Brayshaw - about $800k or a bit more maybe
Walters, Darcy, Serong and Ryan - all over $650k, up to about $750k

Then you are into players like Alex Pearce, jaeger (partly paid by the hawks but he’s on close to $700 all up i would guess)
Brennan Cox probably all getting about $600k

Between $500 and $600 you have players like Jordan Clark, Hayden young, James Aish
Then in the $400 to $500k range I’d guess it’s guys like Brodie, Schultz, Switta, hamling (could be on more as he was on a 5 year deal ok decent coin), Chapman, Frederick, Tabs and probably Henry would be coming in at about $400 given he was a former top 10 pick.

People like Ethan Hughes, banners, Colyer would be in the 300 to 400 bracket and below that you are into base salaries plus match payments for the youngsters and fringe players
The two first year Cat B rookies are the lowest paid players on the list I imagine.

I’d be curious to know what Amiss will be earning next year, I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s jumped right into the $500k range as his new long term deal kicks in. Deservedly so based on his importance to
the side. I Imagine there’s a clause in his deal that if he starts winning Coleman’s and AA awards in his 4th or 5th year his salary will get up around $750k plus to reflect that.
