The AFL soft cap will increase by $700,000 by the 2027 season while the AFLW equivalent will lift by $300,000 amid a raft of changes to the policy.

Clubs and coaches have long agitated to lift the soft caps after a series of cuts during the COVID-19 affected 2020 season.

The league announced the changes, which will gradually take place between 2025 and 2027, late on Tuesday afternoon.

The AFL cap will increase by $400,000 to $7.675 million in 2025, then by an additional $250,000 in 2026 and 2027 respectively, to ultimately reach $8.175 million.

The AFLW cap will increase by $100,000 to $1.175 million next year with further increases of $100,000 in each of 2026 and 2027, to ultimately reach $1.375 million.

The AFL estimated in 2025, club expenditure in their football programs across AFL and AFLW would be in the range of $11-$11.5 million.

Clubs are already able to pay 20 per cent of their AFL senior coach's salary outside the soft cap, as of this year, and that will now also apply to their AFLW equivalents.

Clubs can also claim an additional $25,000 deduction from the cap for professional development in AFLW programs.

AFL and AFLW clubs who are required to travel from interstate to Victoria for the respective grand finals can claim an additional $50,000 deduction, while clubs' finals allowances have been lifted.

The league's healthcare model has been adjusted to expand expenditure capacity for key resources including doctors, psychologists, allied health professionals and an Indigenous player development manager.

"Following extensive consultation with clubs, and particularly coaches, other stakeholders and the AFL commission we are pleased to confirm the soft cap policy for three years, providing clubs with planning certainty over the remainder of the current collective bargaining agreement which goes through to the end of the 2027 seasons," chief executive Andrew Dillon said.

"We have continued to talk to coaches and football departments and are also pleased to be able to bring in an AFLW senior coach deduction to now align with the 20 per cent AFL coaches deduction announced last year.

"As part of a commitment to continue to prioritise player health and safety we have revised the soft cap healthcare model to ensure minimum standards in healthcare resourcing are set across the competition and ensure equitable access to healthcare providers across both AFL and AFLW programs."

I'm big on his talent, and he often cops a lot for his laconic approach, but he did have a shocker of a year.
Was an understandable shocker though. Hard enough ask to come back from basically 20+ plus weeks injured (that stress fracture was eight weeks and he was still touch and go) no where near full fitness but Pearce going down exposed his lack of readiness even more.

Not a Darcy kind where his weight causes his injuries too. First one was because he was training too hard and second was contact from Harris. Very happy to cut him some slack for this season knowing how much he put in in the pre season.

It's still crap reporting so not worth taking notice of. We could trade him for a lot more than anybody on that page. Trew played 7 games and a few good quarters a long the way.
Why has trade value got anything to do whether it's crap reporting or not?

It literally says it's rating players for their performances over the home and away season, excluding any with less than 5 games, i.e. rating based on this year only.
It's not talking about value, just how they went this year, much like the ratings following each game.

Agreed, it's actually been fairly breathtaking how quickly people have turned against Cox, I personally think he's quite pivotal to our best defence when he's fit.
Add to that he's a decent option to swing forward and that's a pretty good weapon to have.

Anyone else get the email from the club hiking the price of their membership further next year? I’m pretty much done with buying a membership after this next season unless we make some serious inroads into the finals I’m sorry to say. Paying for 30 odd years of disappointment, rubbish (cold) food and inflated alcohol prices isn’t sustainable. Shame too, I have amazing seats.

Yes, about 5 days ago. I am in Cat 1 and the email says it is going up to $1050. I had to check my invoices to see it was $999 last year. Not sure how many Cat 1 memberships there are, but if it is 20k then it's a nice way to make an extra million dollars under the convenient excuse of "rising costs".

If the category one seats are just the gold ones on this map then I can't think there's going to be more than 1000 seats? Certainly not a third of the entire capacity.

I have category 3 seats and haven't had any email, yet.

It shits me too because you drive all the way to Cockburn go to the team store and get a new polo for $85 minus the measly 10% for being a member and then you walk into the Watertown (or whatever that shitty excuse for a DFO is called) and can get the exact same polo for $35 or less. It’s like, cut me some slack Freo.

Right. I thought it was more of the ground. As in the silver areas and the red/white/yellow, but now that I see the map it triggers my memory that the latter are "unavailable" or classed differently.

I'm in 143, but not right up the back. Still undercover though and don't get wet if it rains, so that's probably where they have drawn the gold/silver boundary.
