Tell me again how amazing those clowns are…

2 playoff seasons: 1) result of an all time cupcake schedule during a pandemic and 2) result of accidentally being forced to play a real qb who saved their a$$es at end of year

49ers placed RB Elijah Mitchell on injured reserve, ending his season.
Mitchell is presumably going on injured reserve for the hamstring injury that limited him earlier. Despite returning to practice six days ago, the team has opted to shut him down for the season, putting Jordan Mason in the driver’s seat as the backup to Christian McCaffrey. Mitchell has been plagued by injuries for much of his four-year career, appearing in just 27 games over that span. He’s been solid when healthy but will likely be looking for a new home after this season, with his contract set to expire.

Broncos released RB Samaje Perine.
It’s a mild, mild surprise the Broncos couldn’t find a trade partner, as Perine figures to quickly find a new home as a pass-catching specialist on the open market

Broncos released WR Tim Patrick.
Patrick is an established name, but it’s not exactly surprising no one was willing to surrender compensation for a 30-year-old who hasn’t played in three years. Patrick will now try to re-establish some value on the workout circuit, though he could also end up back on the Broncos’ practice squad.

Colts waived RB Evan Hull.
In the end, second-year pro Hull never appeared to really be in the mix for No. 2 duties behind Jonathan Taylor. Trey Sermon won the competition and Hull fell behind Tyler Goodson. Although he’s still only 23 years old, it’s a poor career development for a player who is no longer a worthy dynasty league stash.

Patriots placed DT Christian Barmore on the reserve/non-football injury list.
Safety Marte Mapu was placed on injured reserve. Both players have return designations meaning they could take the field later this season. Barmore was diagnosed with blood clots this offseason. There was no timetable for his return when the issue was announced at the start of camp, but the return designation bodes well for his recovery.

Chargers announced that WR Brenden Rice has made the team.
Thanks to one of the more confusingly-worded tweets we’ve ever seen, we initially thought Rice was cut. It is still an inexcusable error. Please accept our apologies. Despite being a seventh-round draft pick who posted 791 yards on 45 catches in college in 2023, Rice has earned his way onto the Chargers’ 53-man roster. While it’s easy to point to his father being Jerry Rice as a reason for that, Rice has looked like an NFL wide receiver during the preseason; however, he’s likely not higher than fourth on the depth chart right now and will need to work his way into earning enough targets to be fantasy relevant.

Eagles will keep DB James Bradberry on the 53-man roster.
Bradberry took snaps at safety during training camp, giving him another path to success after his recent struggles at corner. Bradberry allowed 56 receptions for 689 yards and nine touchdowns last season, per PFF, but will get a chance at redemption to start things out. We’ll see if he makes it through the season, but for now, he’s a veteran presence in a secondary that’s hoping for a turnaround in 2024.

Browns released RB D’Onta Foreman.
ESPN’s Field Yates — who knows what he’s talking about — speculates it could just be a procedural move as the Browns play cut-down day musical chairs, but at least for now, he’s a free agent. It would be a stunning move with Nick Cubb on the PUP list and Jerome Ford the only other viable Week 1 back on the roster. We would assume Yates is correct and Foreman will be “back” some time in the next 48 hours.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports Odell Beckham Jr. (undisclosed) will open the season on the PUP list.
According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, Beckham has been sidelined with “an offseason procedure he had.” We still don’t know much about his injury beyond that, but despite his best efforts to return to the field, Beckham will now miss at least four games with this designation. Beckham caught 35 passes for 565 yards and three touchdowns in his lone season with the Ravens. Once healthy, he’s expected to operate as the Dolphins’ third receiver, but that role could go to Malik Washington, who has had an impressive camp and preseason.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reports that the Cowboys are trading TE Peyton Hendershot to the Chiefs for a 2026 conditional seventh-round pick.
The Cowboys planned to waive Hendershot today but instead will unload him to the Chiefs for a late-round lottery ticket in the 2026 draft. A 2022 undrafted free agent, Hendershot appeared in 25 games for Dallas but was not much of a factor in the box scores. With the Chiefs placing Irv Smith on the IR today, the team is likely viewing Hendershot as a replacement to ensure depth at the tight end position.

Bills released RB Frank Gore Jr.
The son of NFL legend Frank Gore, the rookie from Southern Mississippi had a good preseason rushing the football, totaling 163 yards on 33 carries (4.9 ypc) and one touchdown including a stellar performance (against back-ups) in the final preseason game against the Panthers where he ran for 101 yards and one touchdown on 18 carries. It should be noted that Gore Jr. was only asked to take a snap in pass protection four times during the entire preseason, so there are likely some concerns about his ability there which could be why the Bills feel good about exposing Gore Jr. to waivers in the hopes that they can get him back on their practice squad.

Titans acquired LB Ernest Jones from the Rams in exchanged for a 2026 fifth-round pick.
The veteran linebacker is now on his way to Tennessee just days after it was reported that the Rams granted Jones permission to seek a trade. Jones has played in 47 career games since being drafted by the Rams in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft. He’s totaled 100-plus tackles in each of his last two seasons and tallied a career-high 4.5 sacks last season while also racking up 14 TFLs and breaking up six passes. Jones is in the final year of his rookie contract and is seeking a new deal, which played a role in his seeking a trade. It’s possible the Titans will ink Jones to a new deal in the coming days as they continue to revamp their defense in their first year under head coach Brian Callahan. In addition to Jones, the Titans also received a 2026 sixth-round pick in the exchange.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reports rookie RB Carson Steele made the Chiefs’ “initial 53-man roster.”
The undrafted free agent out of UCLA rushed 11 times for 87 yards and two touchdowns this preseason, forcing nine missed tackles along the way. Steele now has a chance to carve out a role in the Chiefs’ fantasy-friendly backfield.

Chiefs waived WR Kadarius Toney.
Toney will need to clear waivers after being let go by the Chiefs. After totaling 39 catches for 420 yards as a rookie with the Giants in 2021, Toney found himself on the way midway through the 2022 season and has totaled a meager 43 receptions for 340 yards and three touchdowns in the last two seasons. Injuries have slowed Toney’s career, as he’s appeared in just 32 of a possible 51 regular-season games since entering the league. We’ll see which team is desperate enough for help to bring on Toney in the coming days, as the talent should still entice several teams.

Chiefs released TE Irv Smith Jr.
The former second-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, Smith Jr. has never quite been able to live up to the hype after his collegiate career at Alabama. Smith came out of college as a plus athlete who had a career 58/838/10 (14.4 YPR) receiving line over three seasons with the Crimson Tide. Injuries have sapped some of his explosion, but his draft pedigree makes it likely that somebody else will give him another chance.

According to ESPN’s Jordan Raanan, QB Tommy DeVito will make the Giants’ initial 53-man roster.
Raanan mentions that Brian Daboll said the Giants will carry three quarterbacks, which means Tommy DeVito remains along with Daniel Jones and Drew Lock. However, Daboll also called this group “the original 53" and said there will be changes coming in the next few days, so it’s possible that DeVito will be waived if the Giants continue to feel confident about Drew Lick (oblique) and his ability to suit up for Week 1.

Saints expected to place RB Kendre Miller (hamstring) on injured reserve “to start the season.”
The report comes from Josina Anderson, whose phrasing suggests Miller will eventually be designated to return. The injured reserve/designated to return rules stipulate the player remains sidelined for at least four games, indicating Miller will be eligible to return for the Saints Week 5 game against the Chiefs.

Chargers released RB Isaiah Spiller.
The writing was on the wall after Spiller saw extensive action in the Chargers’ final preseason game while rookie RB Kimani Vidal was inactive. With Spiller gone, Vidal should take on the RB3 role behind some combination of Gus Edwards and J.K. Dobbins. A highly productive college back, Vidal had 49 yards on 11 rushes during the preseason. He’s a long way from playing time in LA.

Cardinals waived QB Desmond Ridder.
Ridder was in a battle with Clayton Tune to back up Kyler Murray. The third-year quarterback completed 20-of-35 passes for 225 yards, no touchdowns, and no interceptions in his three preseason outings while adding another 63 yards on the ground. Things haven’t clicked for Ridder since he entered the league as a third-round pick back in 2022. While playing in a broken Arthur Smith offense did him no favors, Ridder has thrown for 3544-14-12 in 19 career games and has 10 lost fumbles to his name. He’ll likely find a spot on another team’s practice squad, and could even return to the Cardinals if another team doesn’t scoop him up in the coming days.

Panthers released WR Terrace Marshall.
Marshall was a second-round pick of the Panthers back in 2021. The former LSU product caught 19 passes for 139 scoreless yards last season and totaled 28-490-1 in 2022 — his most productive season to date. He’s been gradually phased out over the last two seasons and clearly wasn’t a fit for head coach Dave Canales’ new-look offense. Marshall will have plenty of suitors on the open market as he looks to restart his career elsewhere.

Another season on injured reserve, **** me

Colts placed TE Jelani Woods (toe) on injured reserve, ending his season.
The Athletic’s James Boyd was first with the report. We already knew Woods was missing at least four months, but the Colts are going ahead and calling it now. It’s a brutal blow for the 2022 third-rounder after he missed all of 2023 with hamstring issues. He’ll now be headed into his age-26 campaign with only 25 career grabs. Woods is no longer worth a hold in Dynasty leagues.

Somewhat surprising, had a good connection with CJ, thought he'd be depth they'd want to keep

Texans released WR Noah Brown.
28-year-old veteran Brown caught 33 balls for 567 yards and two scores a season ago but is a predictable roster casualty of the Texans’ receiver riches. Coming off back-to-back 500-yard campaigns, Brown will undoubtedly land a new deal as an experienced depth option before Week 1.
