I am opposite of you guys. I don't care if a top prospect performs at combine. Totally understand it why compete when their is only downsides for them hardly any up.

Yes, well all know the clock on pro day running events is bogus and heavily favours the player. I kind of get it from a QBs perspective, they want to throw with guys they have a rapport with, not to be made to look bad by guys who they have never thrown a ball to before.
Indy is actually a fast track now (they installed turf that was faster during Covid)

I think the problem is more that they get to do more specific training for drills if they wait another 2-3 weeks until a Pro Day.

Doing drills at weird times the last few years when the NFL tried to make the Combine at prime time thing wouldn't have helped either

The Boston Herald’s Doug Kyed reports the Patriots are meeting with LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels and four other quarterbacks at the NFL Scouting Combine.
The other four passers are USC’s Caleb Williams, North Carolina’s Drake Maye, Michigan’s J.J. McCarthy, and Oregon’s Bo Nix. Williams will meet with the Patriots later today while the rest of the group have already met with the New England brass. The Patriots hold the No. 3 overall pick, giving them an opportunity to land one of the top quarterbacks in the class, though they aren’t guaranteed their first choice. Following the seismic shift of Bill Belichick’s departure, now is the perfect time to reset at quarterback as well. Though the Patriots could look to the veteran market for a new passer, it looks like they are a good bet to take a rookie at some point during the draft.

Brock Bowers said he is undecided on whether or not he will workout at the NFL Scouting Combine, saying it’s, “just a personal decision.”
The consensus TE1 of this year’s draft class, fans, and the league have been waiting for nearly two years for Bowers to enter the NFL Draft. Bowers totaled 175 receptions for 2,538 yards and 26 touchdowns during his college career while averaging an impressive 14.5 YPR. While it would be disappointing to see him skip the combine workout, we would still get a chance to see him test at Georgia’s pro day, which is scheduled for March 13th.

Braden Fiske seems quite the athlete for a DT based on his combine. A little undersized at 6'4" 292lbs, but that's probably not the worst thing given the way the NFL is going with all these spread offenses and mobile QBs. Also means he can be moved all across the line in a 4/3 & 3/4

Elite at everything except size, which isn't exactly bad at 292. Donlad is below 290 even, might even be below 280 and I think he's done alright.

Yeah not worried about the weight as there's a definite need for these body types in most defensive setups. Killing it at the combine certainly helps the cause tho.

Athleticism completely overrated for DTs, just my opinion.
you want strength so they can drop a knee to anchor themselves against the run when facing a double team.

Guys like Donald and Watt would come to mind. I agree it isn't everything, especially 40 times, but I see some value in some of the power and agility ones. 3 cones, broad jump for example, can give you an idea of explosiveness

Yeah but their power and technique is great also. You'll get the freak DTs who do it all. Just saying I don't put much stock in athleticism testing by itself.

Watt was never a DT. he played inside at times in sub packages but was a DE

Well no, you shouldn't really do that with any position not just DT. What you're hoping to see is what you see on the screen matches what you see in testing.

I.e. they look explosive on field, then you see in the testing that yes, they really are that powerful. Sort of like a confirmation of what your scouting tells you.

40, 20 time mean nothing for a DT.

Exactly what I mean.
but you are not using smaller athletic guys at DT more than 5-10 snaps a game. its like a wet dream for IOL with an inside run call.

Donald is
He plays more like an DE. which is why the Rams have a NT. He isnt getting the inside double teams. He lines up over a guard or the B gap
