Has been smashed his entire life. It does not phase him.

I get that, but there's a big difference in being hit by 80kg kids compared to 100+kg men, which is what will be happening. The potential issue is he can get hurt, which is what happened during the sim.

I'm surprised it didn't make the cut in the news clip there, because when it happened the reporter called out to the cameraman to make sure he was filming it.

Hopefully he thrives off being targetted.

Chatted with Kade Simpson today for the Talking Hawks podcast.
Takeaways from it were:
Spoke highly of Blanck and his development.
Blanck, Serong and DGB all pushing each other in the gym.
Said Serong would be considered more of a utility who can play key if needed, same as DGB.
Spoke about Amon's polish off half back and how important it will be in setting up attacking raids.
Wants us to be feared for our ability to attack from down field.
Said Dimma will add more to the forward line than we think.
Scrimma hasn't missed a beat.
Don't expect Bazz to struggle upon return as he had a great season before the injury.
Shammy will be able to run in less than a fortnight
I've been told Day is aiming for a r4 return.

And Chad is miles ahead of schedule.

He does. And gives it back. His core confidence is off the charts.

Really exemplified by the constant “use your weapons rhetoric” both have their merits, but Nash’s transformation post clarko departure is a pretty glowing endorsement of Mitchell’s philosophy
Yes, and also the organic emergence of the "handball happy hawks" last season. Something Sam and the players said in interviews that they didn't train for, it just naturally evolved from the direction to move the ball forward quickly.

See above. There is a huge difference between getting hit by a weedy teen, compared to being hit by a fully grown AFL player.
Don’t know how much APS you have watched but there are some seriously developed kids running around many of which get drafted and play round 1 at AFL level. It’s not kindergarten.

How many 100kg kids are running around at TAC level. How many fully physically developed kids are running around? Very few.

Look, I thought my point was obvious - I'm not saying he won't play round #1 or won't by a star, because I think he will on both counts, based on what I've now seen. I can't wait to watch him play.

My point was I'm just concerned he will get targetted by others (this is inevitable) and he will be susceptible to getting hurt. It just comes with the territory of being so small compared to his contemporaries, and being so tenacious and skilful.

The APS clearly isnt the AFL but at the same time it isn’t full of skinny little kids.

He didn’t seem overly glowing of DGB to me. Much more positive about blanck.

why are we playing dogs twice ??

wouldn't it better preparation playing another team ?
Might work out well that we can prerrange for 1 game to be the younger players getting an opportunity and the other closer to full strength senior players just getting some ks into their legs.

Got there just after 10am, so missed the very start.

Q1
● CJ vs Massimo on the wing
● centre ball-up, Hustwaite with a huge tackle on Nash, winning the free
● blue worked it forwards and Meek marked in front of DGB on the lead
● Scrim with a big defensive mark amongst multiple players
● Ramsden absolutely out worked Reeves, got 10m on him and took the chop out mark on the wing
● Hustwaite got hit in a tackle, comes off. Butler replaces him in the middle
● Bennetts snap at goal
● Worpel has a terrible kick under limited pressure, gets angry with himself
● CJ has a high tackle on Watson, ball is kicked in long to the F50 and Chol takes a big mark and goals
● drinks break
● Nash with another clearance
● Chol really standing out
● Weddle and Watson getting into it, then Lewis giving Weddle a shove and some choice words
● Ball-up in the pocket, Nash tackle on Mackenzie, wins free and snaps the goal
● Ward to a wing (vs CJ) and MacDonald moved to the middle
● Newcombe wins the free at the ball-up, Worpel gives away a 50 and Newcombe goals
● Low trajectory kick into the 50 (unsure who), Watson marks it in a fairly congested area

End of quarter:
Yellow - 25
Blue - 26

Q2
● Nash on a wing to start
● Yellow worked it forwards, Chol with another huge mark but missed the kick
● great rebounding from Scrimshaw and CJ, leading to a Ramsden goal
● Mackenzie with a great kick to someone (couldn't see who), who then turned it over to Newcombe, who gave it to Ginnivan and the Wiz worked it forward to Lewis for a goal
● Meek wins the ruck contest down to Mackenzie, who had another nice kick
● Watson down in a contest, looked sore
● Amon with a great overlapping run from defence, and an even better kick
● another rebound with Amon, to Butler to CJ, who kicks long. DGB had a big defensive effort
● drinks break
● Nash wins the clearance. Eventually leads to Finn goaling
● Nash to Ward, who wins the clearance
● Hustwaite with ridiculous hands to Mackenzie under pressure, who lazers a kick. Great play from both
● JOS tackled high
● Scrimshaw goes down in a defensive marking contest, comes off for a bit
● Ward to a wing, replaced by Moore (who had been very quiet) in the middle. Chol into the ruck
● Newcombe to Nash to someone (couldn't see) to the Wiz, who misses his shot
● Mackenzie outmarks Ward on the 50, plays on and misses
● unknown player with a bad turnover by hand when running out of D50, JOS gets the ball and snaps a goal
● Wiz chasedown on Mackenzie, paid a free however he did get rid of it (had a good angle of it)
● Weddle with a great link-up run from D50 along the wing, gets it to Meek, who switches to Chol, who goals. Great play

HT
Yellow - 46
Blue - 46

Q3 and Q4 - I stopped taking as many notes
● Scrimshaw back on the field
● MacDonald started in the middle, Nash on the bench. Nash then swapped back into the middle straight after
● Blue team put on great pressure twice as Yellow attempted to rebound from D50 and work it up the wing
● Nice tap down from Reeves to Newcombe
● Massimo with two lazerbeam kicks from the backline
● Blue turned it over in the middle, Yellow worked it out to Nash, who dished to Dimma, who hit up Chol, who goaled
● next play was a free to Reeves, who gave it to Nash, then to Ward who hit up Chol, who missed

● play resumed with a ball-up in Blue's D50
● Mackenzie involved in a passage of play twice, working the ball up along the wing from D50
● Frost gets the pill and has a poor short kick
● Chol has the ball on the HFF, switches it across
● Mackenzie running amok, finding space and kicked to the advantage of the forwards. Good defensive play stops the mark
● Mackenzie again hitting a target after a quality clearance from Finn, the forward misses though
● Dimma nails a kick to Chol
● Dimma then moved back, and takes an intercept mark literally the next passage of play
● Hustwaite finishes off the game with a glorious pickup and a no-looker hand off over his shoulders, Nikola Jokic style, to a teammate

Couldn't tell you what the final score was, though Yellow won by about 2 goals. I think maybe it was 60 to 49.
I rode every bump, saw every kick / contest / play and enjoyed every goal of this report. Kudos J2S. I normally do not comment on track watcher reports but this was exceptional.

Yep that was quite obvious. Switched into let’s throw DGB into a group of players so he didn’t have to talk about him individually.

Interview did highlight to me if Sic and or Blanck goes down we are up against it.

I’m not sold on Simpson. Backline is a big watch this season.

I’d love to see a preseason comp of players from each team that are 23 or under. Everyone knows North will struggle this year, but a team of North’s under 24s would smoke Geelong. And that would give North supporters hope.

Of course the Hawks would win that comp 🤘🏻. But it would also give the West Coasters hope.

Practice matches with the full team should be just that, practice matches.

let us see the future.

Cross your fingers that delusional Norf poster Psicosis doesn't read this.

Bont
Cripps
3 x caleb daniels stacked on top of each other
Bont 194cm, Cripps 196cm, Nash 198cm. Bont has the measure of Nash and Cripps because he is much better overhead and is therefore a threat in the forward half when not on the ball. Cripps is not a heavy scorer but is still well ahead of Nash who has negligible scoreboard impact. Nash probably has the edge in both speed and endurance.

As I have been saying for a while, if he can get his overhead marking to AFL standard he will have more scoreboard impact and reach another level - at which point he won't look our of place alongside Bont and Cripps.

Bont also has some of the best skills by hand in foot in the AFL which also seperates him from Nash and Cripps (like all great players time seems to slow down when he has ball in hand).

Nash is an absolute brute though, his tackles and defensive effort combined with his ball winning and size make him a unique player.

I don't think he will ever be a great overhead mark though like Bont is (even Cripps isn't too bad over his head).
