I don't think Sam is arrogant at all?

He understands that he is a relatively inexperienced senior coach and surrounds himself with an experienced coaching staff like Hick, Collins and Ratts.

He's gone out of his way to find experienced mentors like Ange and Simmo.

I liken Sam’s Coaching to watching a Shaun Burgoyne or Darren Jarmen playing football!
Sam looks so natural in the box he knows exactly what to do when needed and it feels so right.
You can tell he is so confident in the path we are taking!
I just hope his arrogance does not get in the way!

to be fair to be confident you need to have self belief, or self awareness. which can be seen as being arrogant. Sam is highly confident, so can be seen as being arrogant in that regard. people usually associate arrogance with ignorance, which can be negative. Reading the original post, I see it as being more positive than negative.

With Clarko, in his last years with us, he became ignorant as he failed to acknowledge the severity of our list, and kept trying to prop it up and do it his way, rather than listen to others and start a re-build. Kennet is another where he would go off half cocked and start sending out embarrassing tweets for his own ego.

so from my reading of the original post, I see it more as a positive rather than being a negative, because as you have stated he is surrounding himself with experienced people, and seems to be listening, enabling him to learn. as the original poster implies Sam does seem a natural, and that’s through Sam’s self belief. It’s only going to be a problem later, if Sam becomes ignorant and stops listening. My belief and hope is that Sam has the intelligence, to not fall into that trap.

When we talk about Nash, what I remember is the saints game. Sam started Nash on a wing in the first quarter and we got smashed in centre clearances 9-0 and had 9 kicked against us. The rest of the game Nash starts centre square and we win the centre clearances count. Nash is critical to our centre bounce structure and at stoppages.

Saturday, March 2

Hawthorn v Western Bulldogs, University of Tasmania Stadium, 6.10pm AEDT
Thanks for your response, the game I was referring to is the annual intra-club match the club hosts at Bunjil Bagora, where the fans can come and watch before the practice matches commence.

Cheers

Are there any other midfielders with his physical attributes?
I’d say Blicavs at 1.98cm and playing occasionally as a non-rucking mid is close, but he doesn’t quite have the intensity in the contest that Nash does.

He’s no doubt a better endurance runner, but Nash has him for speed / agility at ground level.

Would Nash be considered in the top 50 midfielders in the AFL?
On last year he would be close, top 3 in each club takes you up to 54. Top clubs would generally have 1 or 2 more, a bottom club less. Our midfield performed more like a mid table club, other areas were bottom club level

Nash and Worpel not far behind newc and day in pcm sicily just behind

Newc in top 24 mids AA squad. Day would be in top 50 Sicily was top 10 defenders probably.

Nash borderline top 50. He keeps the no1 tagger, maginness, out of centre square bounces

Match simulation against the Bulldogs starts at 11 am on Friday the 23rd of February and open to the public. Will also be shown live on kayo as well
Will be an 8 quarter match with Box Hill taking over the latter stages.

Box Hill then return to Whitten Oval for another praccy match the following week when HFC are in Tassie.

Sicily is the best general defender in the league.

He'd be top ten for all players, not just defenders IMOH.

Chatted with Kade Simpson today for the Talking Hawks podcast.
Takeaways from it were:
Spoke highly of Blanck and his development.
Blanck, Serong and DGB all pushing each other in the gym.
Said Serong would be considered more of a utility who can play key if needed, same as DGB.
Spoke about Amon's polish off half back and how important it will be in setting up attacking raids.
Wants us to be feared for our ability to attack from down field.
Said Dimma will add more to the forward line than we think.
Scrimma hasn't missed a beat.
Don't expect Bazz to struggle upon return as he had a great season before the injury.
Shammy will be able to run in less than a fortnight
Who does be Bazz? I still occasionally have nightmares about Barry Young. More turnovers than a Danish bakery.

Best of luck for the year.

Hows weddle coming along? Seemed to have a positive first season. Is he best 22? Do you think hel breakout/start to find more of the footy? Seems like he has a tank and could become an elite wingman potentially?
Don't rate him as much of a fantasy/supercoach pick but every other answer to your question is yes

I can get the official game on March 2nd in the UK but not this Kayo can’t be accessed from here. Any chance of someone being able to get a replay and post it up here somewhere?

I think Wingz has had a good look at the Hawthorn pre-season and thought “Sh*t, I’m not gonna miss out on this!”
I know this might be a little pessimistic but I have my doubts he'll play a lot of games this year; just from history, players that miss the pre-season always struggle to play well, let alone their best footy during the season. He's also competing against several additions to our forward line who all share similar talent.

Agree, he wouldn’t be in my 22 at full fitness but hope he can prove me wrong.

I think he is arrogant but in the true sense of the original meaning. He arrogates his right to make decisions based on his past performance (as a player). He has too little experience as a coach to do it any other way. Arrogant, though, as society uses the word, he is not.
