Usually the official preseason game has around 26. Usually just 22 in the game at anytime and then 4 subs

Is there any word on the format for Friday. 4 quarters? 6 periods? Or a AFL practice match and a VFL practice match?
8 Quarters
The first 4 are predominantly seniors, the next 4 predominantly Box Hill

Up to 8 on the bench

Thanks. Just saw this on the Dogs website. Hawthorn have provided no information about it

The 2024 Season Launch will occur after the scheduled practice matches for both the AFL (11am start) and VFL teams (1:50pm start).
They have a season launch from 4pm so potentially shorter quarters for the VFL one

I do understand what you are saying, but I'd counter that if people want to grab your dick and stick fingers up your arse then they are probably still exploring their own sexuality.

That's the most simplistic view of it, and respectfully, the most off-base.
By extension, it would be like suggesting the classic footy tap on the bum, showering with the boys after a game and endless physical affection both on and off field are all actions of a sexual nature.

Close groups can be guilty of pushing boundaries, I'll admit though.

Totally agree with this, I found the whole thing quite bizarre. Maybe I'm a dinosaur and just old fashioned by dare I say "back in my day " a bunch of heterosexual blokes just wouldn't be sticking there fingers up each others butt holes.

The thread detours that we’re going on are getting more and more unhinged by the day
Unhinged is a good word for it.

Meanwhile, back to the preseason training. Looking forward to this Friday's practice game. Does anyone know when the team's going to be announced?

I'm reminded of the old headmaster addressing the all male school assembly, warning them about the perils of sex. "Don't misunderstand me, sex with a woman is great. But it's not like the real thing."

At his best he would be, and we’d be pretty exciting to watch.

My worry is he was in Dubai to sort all this out and he’s back injured again before the season has started. How long does he stay on the list if he can’t contribute on game day? ‘Potential’ can have an expiry date.
How long did Cyril last before we flicked him?
CJ, probably like Cyril, has mechanical issues that need sorting, took a while before Jnr boy was able to overcome those issues, but still rarely ventured on ball.
CJ may never fix his issues, & a wasted career would follow, but way too early to right him off.

Freudian slip?

Swing by French Baguette for lunch if you're after a $10 Banh Mi
I’m going to a place now in Essendon that does big Banh Mi for $7. I don’t have $10 Banh Mi blood in me.

Word of warning...while I love the idea- the Rising Star will be the player that the media will anoint very early in the season.
This. And despite it not being part of the eligibility criteria, the media reps who vote on it have since 2016 only voted a winner from the top 8 selections of the previous year's national draft with the exception of Jackson in 2021 which I put down to the 2020 draft being a bit weaker and all the COVID impacts on development.

I'll be shocked if the 2024 Rising Star isn't one of Reid or McKercher. From what I understand they'll both be getting plenty of minutes across HB where they'll get plenty of ball and opportunity to show off their skills. Also seem likely to play 20+ games. Watson a smokey if he can average 1-2 goals and consistently make the highlights reels.

Previous winners and their draft
2023, H.Sheezel, 2022 pick 3
2022, N.Daicos, 2021 pick 4
2021, L.Jackson, 2019 pick 3
2020, C.Serong, 2019 pick 8
2019, S.Walsh, 2018 pick 1
2018, J.Stephenson, 2017 pick 6
2017, A.McGrath, 2016 pick 1
2016, C.Mills, 2015 pick 3
2015, J.Hogan, 2012 mini-draft pick 2
2014, L.Taylor, 2013 pick 28
2013, J.O'Meara, 2011 mini-draft pick 1
2012, D.Talia, 2009 pick 13
2011, D.Heppell, 2010 pick 8
2010, D.Hannebery, 2008 pick 30

I think at this stage McKercher or Wardlaw would be clear favourites.

Reid has the hype but not the tank yet to fully show off what he is capable of.

I see Reid being more likely to have the better career though.

McKercher had the ball on a string today. Didn't seem to do much with it but more death by a thousand cuts.

I am guessing that represents good value, but I lament the fact that we now pay $10 for a sandwich/roll.
yeah i think it is good value. they're one of my faves in the area and are extremely filling. they pack shitloads of meat into it too which is no doubt the most expensive ingredient.

$10 for a high-quality meal is cheap these days no matter what way u look at it. For example Footscray Subway footlongs are $17!!!! For a vastly inferior product.

I've never really experienced cheap eats as an adult so the shock of a $10 baguette is lost on me. Subway at its cheapest in Australia was $10 for a footlong in my memory so it seems about right to me tbh. Maybe they did those $5 promos for a lil while though

Used to get a meatball sub (footlong) for about 5 bucks back in the mid 2000s.

Bulking back in those days was piss easy.
