Training this morning:
Amon running laps
About 30 out there so far today
Reeves and Nash involved in drills drills
Dimma Worpel Moore Scrim Morrison again there.
No Sis at present
Meek also there. Not sure he was there Monday.
CJ on his own program.
Hickmott looks like he might possibly be taking the forwards
Stephens out there training
Massimo with a nice intercept contested possession

What were Nash & Reeves doing? Proper drills?

Hey guys,
Pardon the intrusion; and this may come as a strange question --
But does anyone happen to know the training days/times the hawks players train pre-season?
Is it monday-Wed-friday. 9am?

I have a week before the pies start training, and I told Ginni I would come and stop by for one session next week, and he can sign some stuff for me.

Hi Jen Watt,

Someone said other clubs lurk on this board.

Cheers,

Brad

PS looks like you can’t stop the Clarkson greed either. Lucky it’s a short termer.

Does anyone know when they train in December days and times? I am coming home for Xmas and would be keen to get my daughter to see the players and into hawks merchandise asap!
They usually have an open Xmas training where they reveal the numbers of players.

Not sure when, but you should definitely target this session. Will help with your merchandise that’s for sure.

At present, Monday the 18th of December is the last day of training before the players head off for the Christmas break.

Leigh and Kelvin Matthews, I reckon one did alright, 8 B&F's, over 970 goals, 4 x premierships between them..

We had a series of Abletts too.

The other Matthews (Kelvin) did alright as well. Unfortunately everyone comes worse off in comparison with Leigh.

Kelvin played 97 games, was a Hawthorn premiership player, Victorian interstate player.
The brothers kicked 14 goals in a game against Fitzroy (Leigh only managed 6 of them).

Keen for anyone ITK or track watches where Cam Mckenzie will slot in, is he training for a secondary spot? The mid fields getting pretty chokka
Newk’s, Day, Worps’s, Nash, Ward and C Mac wants in too. I’ve got this six locked in my starting 22 and keen to learn a bit more on Frenchy.
thanks in advance 🙏🏼

It is a very different philosophy to later times of Clarkson. We had a one paced midfield that lacked depth and had to use our explosive flankers to help provide midfield run next to our inside midfielders. This meant we had make shift players in against full time midfielders, and also were taking away from our forward structure. This also affected ball movement, as we needed to slow it down if we didn't have our full forward 6 up there, and we were worried about turn overs and lack of pace of our midfielders to run hard defensively. That won't happen with who we have now, it bats very deep, and also we have drafted a lot of flexible types, that are a bit inside/outside and can run on the spread offensively and defensively.

Ward could go in the centre but also wing/half back as well with his running capacity. CMac is a 70/30 forward/mid type in our rotation, doing bursts in middle to be explosive and offer X-Factor. Day is Hodge-like with his reading of play in defence and smart usage. Nash can be a run with role, but also has the tank to play wider and start on wing at times. Newcombe can pinch up forward and take a mark, and is a good set shot.

Cam MacKenzie's point of difference is his pure class with disposal by hand and foot, and has a good step and his acceleration off the mark is quicker than you think... just needs some size and some miles in his legs over pre-season. I think there will definitely be a role and he might end up jumping a guy like Worpel down the line. He probably needs to find another position like the others above in the short term to cement a spot this year, as Worpel had a great year last year and was a bull at the stoppages. With MacKenzie's kicking, hopefully that position is resting forward flank delivering to the forwards, but he needs to improve his ability to get out of traffic when coming up to hit the ball.
