I called it already but my man Scrimmers is in for a very big year in 2024.

Him and Sicily working in tandem gives us one of the best intercept marking half back lines going.
So is your user name deliberately "Onya Scrimshaw"? I've always wondered.

Bramble fit Sam's style. Bramble was a tryer. Scrim was coasting.

Needed a rocket up his arse for a long time.

Scrim needed to change the way he plays and smarten up quickly to get the most out of his career. Credit to him as he has taken responsibility and his intensity has gone through the roof. Become a lot more combative on the field (that tackle on DeGoey phwoar) and on the training track too according to the reports of our posters.

I am hoping this is the season where it all clicks for Scrim. He has so much talent.
This is where I have the issue with talk about Jack as if he was coasting his way through AFL.

Firstly unless you are an absolute freak like Garry Ablett Senior it's pretty much impossible to coast your way through an AFL career.

Secondly Scrimmers has been one of our most consistent players since he came over from Gold Coast. His 2021 year in particular was stellar and 2022 was good as well.

I don't equate consistency with coasting. In fact I equate consistency with professionalism and hard work. If he had been flaky in his form you may have a point but that's not what has occured at all.

Yes Jack had/has elements of his game to work on but so does every single player in the AFL. I could pick someone like Newk and say he needs to work on being more of a goal kicking threat and being more consistent over four quarters but he's still a gun and shouldn't be playing VFL.

I still maintain Scrimmers was poorly treated last year and it didn't do the team any favours. We don't have the talent to be playing a talent such as Scrimmers in the VFL.

And really what was the point of playing him the VFL? He dominates every time he plays at that level and is always clearly levels above everyone else?

F..k me you are right!

No that's just karma at work 😂

I honestly never picked that up.

Before I forget, let me share few pics I took of today's game.

The 1st pic of Gunners watching Dear was interesting. In this shot Gunners is not smiling as much but for a whole minute earlier he had a bright smile and was watching Dear as he sat down & was speaking to Sam I suppose. Reeves gave him the headset and asked him to take the call. Assume it was something to do with his 1st shot on goal. Gunners had this big proud brother/father figure smile on him and Dear was oblivious to it when on the bench.

This shit happened 12 months ago and he's just enjoyed possibly the best pre season of his career and looks set to carve out a role as a premier KPD. I really think it's time to let it go and just be glad that he looks ripe for an excellent season after a great showing yesterday.

I think posters have been very patient and generous with not only their explanation but also intel on this for you.
Last year , pre season , yesterday etc
They have articulated the numerous reasons , coaches reasons and even the player himself ( credit to him ) to you directly on this public forum.

I'll be a bit more blunt and hopefully that assists .
Scrimshaw is a potential A grade talent but was 'coasting' at a B even C level of performance 'consistently'
Thats as basic as it can get.

Your thinking of playing a player due to talent and skill only is a sure way to pretty much blunt a player and teams performance and the overall development of both.

And by your reasoning Don Bradman should have stopped playing cricket , Jordan basketball , Usain Bolt athletics because they were too dominant .

I'm not sure Simon can hear anything remotely critical of Scrimshaw, no matter how logically and patiently put.

Is Scrim finally going to bust out this year and become the player we know he can be? I'm kinda feeling it....
Never been a question of talent, especially with ball in hand. Let’s hope he can consistently put together the other parts of the game and become a key player. Chol not dissimilar in terms of what has held him back in his career. Both have the potential to improve our side if they can consistently sort out the parts of their game that have been consistently lacking.

Honestly colour me shocked. I've always thought it was just an anagram of Onya Scrimshaw. Well, now that's sorted, lets move on to the next mystery. The nature of dark matter.

In some of the post match interviews all made mention of the wind/conditions yesterday. Scrim said it was a 7 goal breeze and the boys found it hard to adjust. Would have been the same for the doggies of course but made a little easier as it’s their training venue.

Just an aside from games v Dogs.
Libba just kills us. Have no one to stop him.

Compare the 2 games in 23, 1st game at Marvel, Hawks in it but Libba was unstoppable and Dogs win. 2nd game in Tassie, No Libba, Newcombe best on and Hawks win.
Just an observation.

Libba is one of the most underrated midfielders in the competition IMO. Such a gun.

I'm still very hopeful and optimistic he can become our 2020s Grant Burchall....

Commentators were oblivious to the wind it was so obvious

I always rate opposition players by how they play against the Hawks.

Libba always gives us massive headaches, he has smashed us on more than one occasion.

Ben Cunningham also used to cause us real heartache when he was playing.

Seems we have a history of struggling with those powerful, compact, hard nut mids.

I am a big fan of Chol but you cant really compare the two.

One of Scrimmers main attributes is that he is super consistent, he very rarely plays a stinker. Go back and look through his match statistics on AFL tables if you don't believe me.

Whereas Chol has struggled with consistency throughout his career (admittedly playing a harder position as a key forward / ruck hyrbid but still).

On a similar topic a lack of consistency was my main criticism of JOM and Wingard in their tenures at the club.

For supposedly "A" grade recruits both of them had/have a tendency to put in an absolute shocker on a semi regular basis. I'm talking a sub ten touch game whilst playing as a midfielder stinker.

Yet they were never demoted to the VFL?
