Training 2024 Preseason Training Thread

Cox has a strong aerobic background, shouldn't be too hard for him to have his running where it needs to be, his issue has been adding weight and staying fit and playing consistently (aside from year 1). If they're taking the time to build slowly and ensure any injuries are in order then that's the most important thing IMO.
I agree taking their time is sensible. It’s just concerning if he doesn’t start to catch up on the missed development that goes back to the Covid years. That is more important than putting on size or getting aerobicall fitter. He needs footy specific training and game sense development.

From what I’ve read he’s not been on the track so much. With all the development he’s missed already you’d be hoping to see him get close to a full pre-season in. Would be reassuring to hear he’s in full training in the very near future. Not to rush him of course, but simply to know that he’s free enough of his ailments that we can properly develop him. He’s the one player I’d like to see learn more about ‘being a footballer’ and time in rehab is not going to give him that.
Been doing the base running. Simply not a lot of the ball work so far .

Agree re running but his other issue has been playing footy well.

I hope for his sake he can get out there during preseason, have a crack, get feedback, improve and gain confidence.

I'd just love to see him get continuity playing down back at VFL / AFL for a whole season. Ideally he'd push Heppell out in that loose 7th back flank role, but no rush. If that means managing him through pre-season to ensure he's 100% fit to start the season, so be it.

That’s good to hear although I’ve also read on Blitz that hasn’t been involved as much. It just read like he’s being held back. If he’s still doing some main training then that’s a win and hopefully we can get some serious development into him this preseason.

I’m hankering for the next superstar of the Essendon FC to step forward this coming season. I don’t think we’ve had a true superstar of the comp since Hird and Lloyd which is ridiculous for such a proud club. 20 years since those guys were in their prime. It speaks volumes of our mediocrity as a club. Merrett and Jobe have been top echelon at their peak but they weren’t/aren’t players who demoralise the opposition. I want to see demoralisation again. That’s what makes footy a joy to watch.

Mate.

We've had 20 years of demoralisation.

😂
Hence my hankering. Turn that shit around Bombers ffs!
Our delusional hopes of a Courtney John’s, Gumby, Joey, or Paddy Ryder taking the comp by storm certainly never came to fruition. Demoralising the wrong supporters is all they achieved.

I ain’t listened to it yet, so not really sure where to put it, I’ll pop it here :)
