I think they should play a game at the scg or Henson park during the Easter show, as that gap in time is an absolute killer, however, what these media people don't realise is, there is a train line being built directly to Olympic park, which will turbo charge the giants crowds in a few years time.

Now I hope the afl and club are targeting all the primary schools close to that new line now, so that when it's complete, those kids can easily access the ground and become fully fledged giants fans (but are they smart enough to do so? history says no on that).

I also think there is a real issue with the bright red seats and people standing up the back instead of sitting in their seats, making the stadium look more empty than it actually is. That issue needs to be addressed, as perception is everything these days. I spoke to the club about this early 2023 and they agreed, yet they still haven't done anything about it, which is disappointing.

The expense of getting the ground up to AFL standard for one game is likely going to be prohibitive, I'm afraid.

That and the public doesn't quite embrace that stadium unless they absolutely have to go there. A lot of work will be reqhuired to get people to turn out even for a blockbuster.

It's not insurmountable but it's got much to overcome when the SCG is essentially ready to go.

They did that once (minus the Good Friday part). It was a really good day out.

I don't mind this idea, piggy back off the Easter show crowd, give them free access to the game, it might get some newbies interested that are already in the precinct.

It does open the club up to further criticism though if the crowd is poor coz the stadium is so big, the media already got upset about a few spare seats the other night. The other thing is, I wonder if the stadium can be converted in season to AFL size?

Stadium Australia was built so that it could be converted to an oval with similar dimensions to GMHBA Stadium. The Swans played 3-4 home games there between 2002-2015.

There were constant problems with the surface, especially after an NRL match, and a lot of noise from Swans supporters who never considered it a home ground.

For me, it will always be the site of our first finals win.

How do we feel about using the Cumberland Stand as part of a GA Membership? I also think the club could up the 3 game GA Membership to 4 games which would be better value for around $100.

Yeah I remember someone sliding onto a bolt behind the goals one game. I was more referring to though, making the adjustments for one game, with all the seating, line marking, goal posts etc. I imagine it would be a bit of a logistical nightmare for the stadium. Although I'm sure they use to do it back when the swans played there if it were 3 games a year and the nrl were playing there most weekends too.

Yeah I wouldn't mind seeing people filtered into the Cumberland stand more. The club I know doesn't like members sitting on that side though coz it's more exposed to the elements. NRL clubs in Sydney use signage to cover over bays of empty seats I've noticed, it's not great but I think it looks better than a whole stand being empty right in camera shot for the whole game.

Yes but it would be nice to have the option as a GA Member. If the club is serious about getting bigger crowds then it needs to think outside the box a little more. They've been doing the same thing for years and it hasn't worked.

I think the GA Cumberland option is brilliant.

You want to capture someone's interest when they go to a game even if it's something as simple as "hey, this is cool!". The view from up there is brilliant (I sat there earlier this year for the Easter show).

Having newbies sit in GA behind the goalposts I'm afraid does not invoke any kind of major excitement. Newbies need to be able to see the game, behind the goalposts just won't cut it if you want to capture someone's interest, I'm afraid.

I'm sure our existing GA fans would appreciate it too given the stand is available and not being utilised.

Should be able to offer around 5-6 games up there under GA, IMO.

Of course, for ticketed events (opening round or derby) have it excluded if need be or a small fee charged to sit there. Over time as our crowds grow, wind the offering back.

Single coloured seats make poor attendance stadium out. Would be ideal to ha e multi coloured seats, like the Gabba. Brisbane never get torn apart when their crowds were poor, becuase it is less noticeable.

We’re not far off, just a 10-15% uplift would very noticeable. It’s the difference between 18k and 21k at a semi final where there wouldn’t be empty sections that stand out.

Now, a week after we got bundled out, I feel like I’m able to reflect a bit more evenly on our finals.

As disappointing as it was to give up such good leads over quality teams, it has convinced me that we were playing the right gamestyle. Simply, we ran out of puff.

For the coaching group, as frustrated as they would no doubt feel, they would have to feel so motivated about next season and beyond. When we are playing our way, no one can go with us.
Therefore the coaching group can say, whoever is able to play our way for the longest, particularly through the midfield, will get the most games.
Our good older players still have several quality years left. Hogan, Greene, Cogs, Whitters, Chook etc can lead but don’t have to set the world on fire imo.

Cadman kicked 30 goals in his second season. He is undersized, but will continue to grow. Importantly, he consistently stood up in big moments.

We have other young players who looked great. Jones, McMullin and Thomas all impressed across the season.

Emphasis on Cadman. Had a poor patch in the middle of the year (which also coincided with the team's poor form) but definitely showed a lot more this year especially towards the back third of the season. Didn't kick more than a goal in a game last year and didn't kick a goal in 6 of the 12 he played. He played 23 games this season, kicked 2+ on eight occasions and only had four games where he didn't kick a goal. Not only that, but he went from 1.6 tackles a game to almost 3 per game (with two games with 7!).

Cadman’s last couple of months were very impressive. I think the match against Brisbane kick started his good form, and part of that coincided with playing ruck chop out and getting more involved when Riccardi was injured.

Another off season in the gym will see him put on some more muscle and he could be really effective for us playing that role, similar to what Daniher does for Brisbane. That would then enable us to play another genuine forward that can hit the scoreboard instead of playing Keeffe. My dream is that Cal Brown regains his form and confidence to become that player.

Hey guys long time!

My initial thoughts are although I am disappointed with the finish I feel we were flattered by making it this far. We won quite a few games just on accurate goal kicking and felt like we won quite a few games on luck. In saying that I think if we got over the Lions last week we too would have beaten Geelong at the G.

With Perryman leaving we need a replacement for him. Essentially we need a player to play a lock down role. Perryman was a luxury because he can play many different roles but we don't need that because most other roles are locked down in our team. So although it would be tough losing him for versatility we should be able to replace him and pay a lot less for that specific role.

Cumming is an athletic player but very very injury prone (can't believe clubs are offering 4-5 years) and I feel we have a ready replacement already on our list in Jame Leake. Conor Stone also fits this bill but he doesn't look up the the standard from what I can see.

Pretty certain Peatling will stay.

To me we need 2 positions filled. Tall forward/Back up ruck role which we can go either way with. Either we go for a high quality draftee with our first pick such as #20 ranked by Cal Twomey Jack Whitlock. 200cm key forward from Vic Country which the Giants much prefer to draft from than Vic Metro. Or we trade for a cheap role player who just tries to compete and rely on others to rip the game apart.

The other position I would love to see filled in more midfield depth. This is an interesting dilemma because on the surface it looks like we have quite a bit of depth there but anyone watching us play this year noticed we struggled to gain ascendency through the middle of the ground. Tom Green

and Finn Callaghan are absolute locks. But after that is the concern. Can we play 2 taggers in Bedford and Peatling? Or just Bedford as a tagger and Peatling as a normal mid?
Kelly had a great year but you can just about bank on him being injured for at least 4-8 games a year.
Coniglio is much the same but seems to be even more unreliable than Kelly with a lower output.
Rowston I haven't seen much of can he take the next step?
Fahey? Is he a half backer or can he play in the midfield?
I would love to see Kingsley trust Ash and put him in the midfield.

If we went with a next gen midfield of Green (23), Callaghan (21), Peatling (24), Ash (23) & Briggs (24) with Kelly (29) and Cogs (31) helping in and around the midfield when available. Do we need another mid?

We obviously will be targeting a role player ruck to help Briggs as well. Not exactly sure.

Not sure on why but the club needs to work out how to get more out of players, Kelly might have been playing sore/injured, Coniglio is key to the midfield performing and with his injury how he comes back next year which maybe delayed start to the season, Ash has the potential and with 100 games hopefully he doesn’t have as many clangers/turnovers
Briggs playing hurt was also a problem later on in the season and he has the potential to really monster the opposition when fit and another who may have a later start to the season and I think why Keefe was kept around and he and Madden may get 5 games at the beginning of next season until Briggs is ready
With the players potentially moving on it does open up opportunities for some on the list and i think the club has said to Stone and X spots are available but no guarantees and if they want to explore opportunities the club won’t stop them although with both the club has invested a lot in them so you would hope they do stick around even if just for another season and if they do leave 2 if Leake, Fonti, Wehr and Angwin can step up into the 23

Overall it was a good season tainted by an opportunity missed.
We let an opportunity slip in the finals obviously.
However.
We finished in the top 4.
We played well in finals (I know getting run down doesnt feel that way, but we were the better side in both games)
We unearthed some excellent young talent, much of which better than anticipated (Peatling, McMullen, Jones and Thomas all gave us far more than anticipated)
We further locked in a clearly identifiable style.

Only a year ago Cogs was outstanding. He has played injured we need to back him in. Fix the rotator cuff and have a big preseason. We need him in best form

In relation to the fade outs.
We were 26-0 before Sydney leading at three-quarter time.
We also ran over the top of teams in the 4th quarter. (Brisbane and Hawks most notably)
Although very disappointing, it is not a pattern and a sign of systematic weakness.

The modern game seems to have more momentum swings than bygone eras. Almost every game has one or both teams having a period where they have it on their terms and they rack up a score. We are no different, we are very good at doing it, but also have it put on us at times. Like everyone, we could get better at defending it, when it is going against us.

Worth noting, we still have a lot of players with 50 or less games, those sort of players have more fade outs (usually missing a defensive job) than more experienced players.
