Test 2024 Sri Lanka Tour of South Africa (2 Tests)

Feel like Sri Lanka have to play their shots here from the 61st to 79th over.

They aren't going to win this or save this by batting too much time. Still have to look to put the bad ball away, and look to rotate strike (to disrupt the bowlers lines etc)

The captain gone now and that is probably the hopes of Sri Lanka winning gone too.

Haysmann reckons some umps around the world wouldn't have given that (Markram catch)- and I agree with that.

It looked like a clean catch to me with fingers under the ball, I think the third umpire made the right decision there.

With that result all we need to do to make the WTC final is defeat India, a drawn series would still see us progress if we win a test in SL

Surely that can’t be correct yet with SA still having two tests against Pakistan over Christmas/new year

Edit: I’m an idiot I was thinking you were referring to Australia leapfrogging SA

SA much look pretty much locked in, unless they completely balls it up against Pakistan

Last spot goes to Aus or India

It’s actually a very intriguing scenario because SA, frail as they are with a batting line up that can go to pieces quite easily, are juuuuust starting to click a LITTLE bit with the willow with Bedingham, Verreyne, Stubbs and now Rickelton making a bit of a name for themselves and obviously Bavuma holding it together. Markram is kind of the unknown as he’s as likely to get a first baller or go out and make 80 off 80.

But playing in England means their attack can basically compete with anyone even allowing for how shallow their batting can be. They could win a one off test match perhaps making no more than 250 in an innings if Rabada and Jansen had a good day.

Would be somewhat ironic if SA’s first ever ICC final win came in a test tournament given how many awesome white ball sides they’ve had that have been unable to get it done and now during a two year rotation in which they couldn’t even field a first or second string team at one point, they are virtually locked into a finals spot and have a legitimate shot at winning the thing.

Always happens in chases like this senario

Im not confident this tail would wag even in their home conditions. Other teams have players that can genuinely bat from 8 to 11 eg Australia. Even India have a much deeper batting lineup as their bowlers can bat a little.
