They haven't denounced it. Wouldn't be hard for them to release a twitter statement denouncing the couch rumour whilst also stating why Vance is such a terrible candidate.

Denouncing it just puts it back into the news cycle and everyone's consciousness again. So maybe they should do it.

I don't think a noble loss is desirable with these opponents. They can calibrate their lowness to their opposition. If they were up against a McCain or Dole, maybe they would. Or just maybe there wouldn't have been any story with one of those sorts of politician.
