I reckon that if the US/Dems were willing to play the long game that they should have waited until this year and have a younger candidate for POTUS. That way, as you said, Trump and his madness would be out of office next year. Unfortunately, here we are: Trump Biden 2. Also unfortunately, that would mean that if Trump takes office, they'd have to wait until 2028 at the earliest.

So, in fact, inflation was increasing by a third under Trump, then Covid ensured whoever was President in the next term was going to have a big deficit and inflation problem - regardless of party or ideology.
