USA 2024 US Presidential Election: Trump vs Harris (pt II)

Biden 81.28 million Trump 74.22 million

Harris 69.07 million Trump 73.41 million

So the democrat vote tanked and Trumps dropped but not by nearly as much. The overall vote was lower, not what I expected, I expected a greater turnout than in 2020.

No doubt many here will have their opinions as to why this occurred, but frankly its too early to know. Six months from now maybe we will have a better idea.

But in the Kamala thread, you posted a video of Walz set to Dancing Queen and said the following:

“So let me ask you - do you think a guy that prances around like that is going to attract the black male vote? Does a guy like that scream "VP" to you?”

How does the way a candidate “prances around” affect people’s health, wellbeing, opportunity and general prosperity?

I think that the Australian MAGA are far more repugnant that the American kind.

The people who just voted for Trump undoubtedly include evangelicals and garden-variety racists and other lower-lifeforms, but I believe that the majority of them are good people in a bad situation.

Trump doesn't have a clue about how to end economic inequality, but he's the only candidate who pretends to address it, and desperate people have responded to that. Rage politics.

But Trump's Australian cheerleaders are, in my experience, overwhelmingly drawn to the politics of hate rather than the deep disenchantment which comes from being abandoned by your governments for 40 years. They're the same breed of slobberer that has been railing against political correctness for 20 years, hardly at all removed from Hansonism, but the force of Trumpism gives their rebadged 'anti-woke' agenda more credibility than the intellectually challenged fish n' chip woman.

In other words, if Trump supporters exist on a spectrum then Australia's version are at the scummy arse-end of it.

I wonder how many Democrat voters stayed away because of their repugnant support for Israel's mass murder of Palestinians.

Yeah the ones here have to actively look into it. Though a lot of people who will say they like him here again don’t necessarily follow politics day to day, see this funny guy doing weird shit which offends the stuffy elites and like it.

Not saying this is the actual reality, but it’s the perception and that’s more important really.

I think it’s a factor for sure.

Lack of primary led to a lot of people not feeling attached to Kamala as well. In saying that it would have been way worse running Biden, replacing him was harm minimisation in the end.

Harris was a terrible candidate who bombed out early in the 2020 primaries, The Dems shot themselves in the foot by insisting Biden wasn't losing his faculties for so long. Hard to remove a guy who won't go I suppose.

Kamala was surprisingly good in the debate. Unfortunately that was the high point.

She is clearly smart and competent and policy smart, but running for president needs more than that. She goes well when she is rehearsed for speeches and for something like a debate.

I think one of my YouTubers said she across as more a manager than a leader and that’s fair.

If she was policy smart she'd talk policy and wouldn't spew nonsense. Maybe she's just a bad speaker but she seems an empty vessel.

Hello,

I’m one of those persons who lurk and laugh in the background without contributing. (I have contributed to the Greg Lynn thread for those who are interested).

Anyways, just like 8 years ago, the world hasn’t come to an end. The Don hasn’t punched in the codes. (yes, yes calm down I understand Donnie hasn’t taken office just yet). Please don’t dye your hair purple or maroon or green whatever. Oh, take out your septum ring please!

This is my take on the big issues leading into the election 👇🏻

If I had better photoshop skills, I could edit that meme with something equally dull-witted like "Republicans learning that women buy groceries more often than they wear septum rings".

But then, why would I bother?

You probably wouldn’t bother because septum rings was not an election issue - abortion was.

It’s a shame Greg Lynn wasn’t the first assassin in Butler PA, he wouldn’t have missed.

hahah not a bad joke 😀

If it wasn’t a joke….why on earth anyone would wish a politician be murdered is beyond me!

It fascinates me how some people take this US presidential election way too seriously. Can you imagine labour/liberal supporters during the Hawke/Keating/Howard era wanting the non preferred candidate murdered?

And we still had beers together and shook hands no matter who won. We certainly didn’t look down on the other just because they preferred a different political party! My god what has happened to us?
