FYI those figures a day old and they are still counting votes.
I'm happy to wait until the full numbers are in.

Are the 2024 numbers similar to the 2020 numbers at this time in the counting process?

So, you are saying that people should game the situation and not pay tax.
The only people that seem to be able to do that are those that are rich.
The ones that have to pay tax seem to be middle and lower classes.

That is demonstrably false.

The top 1% of income earners lets call them the rich pay for 1 in every 5 dollars of income tax collected: $443,544.91 in tax. Each.

The top 10% of income earners pay 1 in 2 dollars of tax collected.

The top 20% pay for 7 in 10 income tax dollars.

The bottom half pay.....zero.

Here is the ignorance of the regressives in its full glory.

Its irrelevant what they are. It comes down to their value.

Average income tax-payer figures here.

Average per annum = $22,616
Median per annum = $12,088

There's a lot of taxpayer funded amenities we use in daily lives. I'd warrant most people get 'value' for what they'd have to spend if they paid no tax whatsoever and had to do it all themselves.

They do because half of them would get it for free, and there's nothing cheaper than free. And why wouldn't you vote for that if you were one of them?

way to get the rich to pay more tax would be to outlaw buy backs. they do them all the time in the USA.
If rather than that they did Dividend reinvest plans then they would need to get a dividend first then buy shares back in the company.
That would create a taxing event for the indivudal/entity.
US companies generally pay very low dividends, it ssaid this is due to reinvesting profits, but also share buybacks. which means the ones who own more of the company own even more as they purchase shares off the market for current owners.

Define "enough tax". And while you're at it define close cousin "their fair share"

This might be a starting point:

Here's an exercise for you; take your net wealth, take your tax bill, work out what percentage of your net wealth you're paying as tax. Do the same for Trump, or Musk, or Bezos.

The claim was they don't pay "enough" tax. Define "enough".

I gave you a starting point to compare to your own income. However, how much of someone's income do you think should be contributed towards public amenities such as roads, healthcare, education? I'm assuming you agree of course that those are things everyone should contribute towards, so if you disagree feel free to clarify.

You're being disingenuous and you know it. The extremely progressive tax system makes averages and medians meaningless.

I'm not making the claim the rich don't pay enough income tax. I think they pay too much. There should be a flat 25% tax rate. No deductions, no concessions.

Does it?

As you earn more, your cost of living doesn't go up proportionately.

If you're earning say, $50,000 you're spending a pretty significant portion of your income on essentials like shelter and food.
If you're earning $100,000, you're spending a lesser portion on essentials.
At $200,000, $500,000, $1,000,000 that portion continues to get smaller and smaller.

So asking someone who earns more, to pay more, is a significantly lesser burden on their ability to live.
