USA 2024 US Presidential Election: Trump vs Harris (pt II)

This is actually one of the best definitions of 'woke' (in its current usage) that I've seen.

And whether intentional or not, it also completely validates the assessment that right wingers use the term for "not right wing". Look at the common factors in your definition:
  • socially progressive views
  • socially progressive views
  • concern for legitimate minority issues
Yes, I see the 'buts' and agree that the line is drawn differently due to personal biases, but your definition is quite a powerful statement as to why 'woke' is not the evil that right wingers so passionately suggest. It's actually appropriate human behaviour.
Lol. Just take the three bullet points and write something completely different to what I actually wrote and say I proved the guy’s point. Brilliant 👏👏👏

If that's where the line truly was, literally no-one would vote for convicted sex offender Trump.
See this bit here where you admit to being a complete goober is actually brilliant!

You truly are a simpleton.

I previously thought it was an act. But sadly, that appears to not be the case.
Oh and this bit where you said the kangaroos are a shit irrelevant club and always will be. Even better. 🙏🙌

I can extrapolate out what you said, and I do think it is projection from you.

So you can't fathom or wrap your head around any person who cares about the world or society at large, so assume they are being disingenuous.

Nope. Plenty of people care about the world without needing to granstand about it. They happen to walk the talk.

Forgive me if I don't take seriously the profesional wokesters decked out in the latest brands, gadgets and late model cars and their overseas holidays.

The biggest cause of climate change is rampant wasteful consumerism. Meaningful change means a drastic change in lifestyle which wokesters won't make. They are fakes. But hey at least they feel good that They Did Something.

Your logic seems to indicate the only people who should care about minorities are minorities themselves, and those minorities also, in turn, only care about themselves. Which is just stupid, and in my opinion a very bleak world view.

But again, props for being honest.

Wrong again. Les Twentyman was a ****ing legend-I remember reading about him 30-40 years ago in my local paper when I was a kid and actually making a real difference. The man lived it. The middle class wannabes, not so much.

Professional wokesters is the silliest phrase I've ever heard. Lots of people from all walks of political life make a difference. Why be so divisive?

What changes in lifestyle do you recommend to defeat climate change? Lots of people do great things for social causes.

In my observation it means any combination of the following:
  • having socially progressive views that are a bit niche or strange
  • having socially progressive views that exaggerate the problem or are illegitimate
  • having concern for legitimate minority issues but having them too high in their list of priorities, or generally just being too strident

Naturally the line is drawn in different places for different people. It’s more like the word “ridiculous” in that it doesn’t come with a t test for what meets its criteria.

If you can’t process the meaning of it, it probably means you aren’t able to realise when this type of thing goes too far. If this is the case, you still don’t need to persist with pretending to not know what it means.
Those definitions are completely in the eye of the beholder, hence my point, they are useless for common discourse.

I’m fine with people calling each other woke; I’m fine with being called woke, if we can agree on a workable definition.

What’s the point of obsessively using a word that no-one can workably define?

All I see is a code word for right wingers to pile on.

Why are you against protecting the rights of people who are trans?
I’d suggest they’re not; they simply grasp that for progressives there are far bigger fish to fry.

Now over to you with “but it’s not the progressives that are banging on about trans rights, it’s the right wing”

And four years from now we can all discuss the ramifications of JD Vance’s recent election to president of the United States.

I agree there are a lot of virtue signallers out there, and corporations trying to look like good citizens while they don't really give a shit. End of the day though, we need collective government action, can't just expect the general population to opt out of society.

I get that, but we can't just rely on charities, and great individuals to do the business on the ground. It comes from up top.

End of the day we have different philosophies, which is fine. I am all for individuals doing great things in communities etc, but that in and of itself isn't going to fix issues of inequality, poverty etc. In Australia we thankfully have a pretty good social welfare state, especially in comparison to America.

It's a bit more than part of a 'playbook'. What the anti-woke are really trying to correct is the course of social movements which began in the 1970s, which they'd describe as 'political correctness gone mad'.

The real problem of the Democrats is that they've abandoned any real commitment to economic fairness. They are Wall Street. They haven't given a serious f*** about the people since the 1960s.

At the same time, they've inherited and pushed the social legacies of the 1970s, which leaves them looking like what they are: a party with a token commitment to disadvantage while ignoring the fact that the US is one of the most unequal countries in the world.

A few decades of pushing this brand created Don and crucified the Dems.

It's not 'anti-woke' which will save them, it's anti-greed.
Hear, hear.

LOL, someone seems a bit sad.

Which bit made you crack the shits the most? I'm betting it was the bit where you unwittingly argued against the point you were making. LOL, self-ownage at its finest.

It must've really hurt for you to stalk me and snipe my next posts. How precious.

Harris was an abject failure of a presidential nominee. Couldn't win the democratic nomination in her own right in 2020.... when parachuted in golden ticket style she was 10m in front of goal and Travis Cloked it big time.
Swings and roundabouts. The GOP/Dem cycle of rotating power will continue for decades to come. Harris will be fine. Go the Hawks
