Gerard Whateley is saying Thursday night footy is winter's daylight saving.

As someone now living in Brisbane, I am vaguely familiar with Thursday night footy, but what is this daylight saving thing that he is talking about?

You mean there are places where it is not light at 4.45am but dark at 6.15pm at the moment?

I love Thursday night games when the Crows aren't playing. One of the worst feelings is waking up the next day for work when the Crows lost the night before. Having to go to work with barely any time to let the result digest :). If its a neutral game, its great, relaxing on the couch watching the footy is great.
See I'm the opposite here. A disappointing Thursday Night loss I've moved on and forgotten about half way through the next day at work. Might help I've had plenty of practise being disappointed by Port and having to move on.

Neither SA team hosting one (the one with Adelaide is a "neutral" gather round one) seems strange given I feel like we used to get a bunch over here and I feel like they've been pretty well attended. Crows were pushing for a Thursday Night Showdown to be a regular thing too, either it's been earmarked for the latter bit of the year or the AFL has nixed it.

Sydney as well as it always seem to do well up there

Its still open for either Port or Crows to host 1 or 2 from Round 16 to 24?

Essendon v North not exactly the most enticing game to played in prime time. AFL would want to be hoping for a big improvement from North
For some weird reason Essendon v North games over the years have been great. 1 match up mot involving my team I always look for when the draw come out

True, and if the Crows Home Showdown is one that would be within that timeframe you would think as they'll host the 2nd of the year. Still find it odd though.

It can also be revealed that Essendon will feature in the most Thursday night games in the first 16 weeks, playing four games on that week night.
Carlton, Hawthorn, Geelong, Western Bulldogs and Brisbane Lions will each play three Thursday night games in the first 16 weeks.
In all, 15 of the 18 clubs will play Thursday night football at least once in the first 16 weeks of the season.

Essendon 🤮 wtf.

AFL gifting prime time Thursday night spots to bottom 6 teams?

Rest assured we owe them big time

Haven’t beaten them for so long and if we win 1 game for the year it should be this one

And we only play them once

This rumour can now be confirmed as false as Collingwood are playing Fremantle in Perth in Round 9.
Collingwood obviously complained enough to the AFL to talk themselves out of a trip down the highway
