Some Hawthorn fixture quirks would love to see actioned for 2025.

  • Haven't played Brisbane at the Gabba since 2019
  • Haven't played Port Adelaide at the MCG since 2014 Preliminary Final (not since 2011 in a Home & Away fixture).
  • Haven't played Carlton twice in a season since 2015

I would love to see a Friday night clash in Melbourne Hawks v Port early on in the season and for the two teams to beat the hell out of each other

Not sure how many prime time Tigers games there will be this year after finishing last and the recent trade period.

very similar, we rarely play Port in Melbourne
haven't played Pies twice in a season in over a decade

but hey someone has to make up for interstate sides playing each other twice every year or guaranteeing the Pies play Ess and Carlton twice every year

I don’t know how the AFL can knowingly have Richmond v Carlton as the Round 1 opener on the Thursday night.

We all know it’s a more than fair chance to be a horribly one sided game where Richmond get belted due to how many senior players they’ve lost.

I wish the AFL would scrap the boring ass Carlton/Richmond Round 1 opener. especially now with the Tigers rebuilding. we could be looking at a 119 point winning margin to Carlton

It’s less of a big deal now that it is not the season opener. The AFL will need to change the season structure in 2028 when Tas comes in.

Wish the AFL would just iron out quirks like this, even if it takes a year or two.
Other exmaples, Collingwood having a game in Geelong, both Adelaide teams having a year off from Ballarat, there's plenty of these sorts that can be addressed.

No chance. Port will sell out anyway. Pies are needed to anchor an stand alone all Vic clash at AO.
Why waste an all-Vic game? Against Freo or WC they could fill Adelaide Oval, and then get 70k+ back in Melbourne with that Vic game.
I would much prefer that the AFL didn't do the fixture based on money more than absolutely necessary, but they do (and its the only reason this horrible round even exists).

It is not wasted. GR is an extra game. The big Vic clubs never all play each other twice,

Its an extra game, but not necessarily "the" extra game.
If they only play WC once next year, for example, and do it in gather round then that would have had to have been played at some point anyway; and leaves the "extra" potentially as against a Vic club in Melbourne.

Shouldnt all gather round games be NOT the only matchup all season?

Should? When did AFL fixturing follow anything that "should" happen?

In some ways, having the only game on neutral territory makes more sense than giving one side the only home advantage of the match-up.
Gather Round is total bullshit that should not exist to begin with, but again, "should" doesn't seem to ever matter with fixturing.
