Good chance our double ups will be Carlton and Collingwood then, both at Marvel second half of season.
Now that Sunday night games are becoming a thing we should try and make something out of Easter Sunday night before the AFL gift wraps it to Essendon.
Maybe make it our annual Fightback celebration to fit the flavour of the day...
Would mean we've given up on getting Good Friday back if that was the case. Could work though, given Easter Monday is a public holiday, so no excuse for folks not to get along to the game.

I have it on the highest authority Gold Coast in Darwin to
So no Queensland games for another year.
How about we vary the draw each year.
Not play Port in Adelaide, Freo in Perth and Geelong in Geelong for once.
That way our Queensland supporters actually see us play.

R1 - Home/Away vs North @ Marvel
R2 - Home vs Pies @ MCG
R3 - Away vs Blues @ Marvel
R4 - "Home"/Neutral vs Lions @ Norwood
R5 - Home vs Sydney @ Marvel
Sounds like our first MARS game could be around R7 or R8 onward. Wonder why it is pushed back into the winter months? After that beautiful sunny day we got this year vs the Suns.

Yeah it is BS. Hardly played any of the Adelaide teams in Melbourne for as long as I remember. We also have only played Adelaide as a double up like once in a whole decade. Barely any games in QLD recently. Always play down in Geelong. Barely any MCG games. Been awhile since we played the Suns up on their ground.

We are still a chance to play Brisbane in Brisbane. We are the home team vs them at Gather Round.

I thought we were the "away" team for Gather Round, so I must have misread it somewhere.
Even if we were the "away" team, Tigers were the "home" team vs the Saints, and still hosted them in a home game later in the season.
My gut feel we get the Lions as one of our double ups. And will play up there at some point. Hopefully so, for our QLD'er supporters sake.

Except we won’t be in the 1-6 group, so it is only an outside chance.
AFL also loves doubling us with GWS, North and Saints for different reasons.
Home/away designation in Gather Round doesnt make a difference towards any double up fixture venue.

Normally we get a bye after a long interstate trip. But doesn't seem like it will be the case this season. Will be either round 12 or round 15.
We get two Friday Night games inside the first 15 rounds. So 3 Thurs, 2 Fri, 1 Sun night games. That means plenty of day / sat night games which I think a few here like.

We all know the teams we double up against are usually down to the following:
Most times: Geelong, GWS, Port, Freo, Melb, North and Sydney
Occasionally: Pies, Saints
Never: Dons, Blues, Eagles, Hawks, Tigers, Crows, Suns
Its a computer with a lot of predetermined outcomes. I doubt there is any change to above, maybe 1 at most.

The AFL runs shadow conferences. When you end up fixing an increasingly larger number of matches within the draw, others need to fall into place to make it work.
Eg they've just added 2 more with North guaranteed of home games against both Fremantle and West Coast for the next 3 seasons, thus now reducing the chance that we and others (outside of WA teams) get them as a double-up.
We're basically guaranteed of a Geelong away game each year because they need to fill a quota of Vic teams playing at GHMBA and won't/rarely send the big clubs.
