Cripps is a great player but the votes he got this year are insane. There is no way he should have polled that many. It’s almost like - umps: “Is Cripps playing? Mark him down for 2-3 and let’s get out of here”.

Great result for Adz though - well deserved after his year.

Cripps is deserving, taking nothing away from him at all, and rather him than some of the others. But if anyone was being honest, its a farce thay he got 45, and Daicos 38. It shows the umpires are likely somewhat influenced by the media. Both got votes in games there were not even in the best 5 or 8 players on the field.

In old times, umpires could identify rucks, defenders and forwards having influence. And give them votes accordingly. These days they have such narrow tunnel vision, they get caught up in who has the most possessions, and getting hyped up by certain names that get talked about. Thus they have turned it into a midfielders only award, and some players get votes based on their name for nothing games. Even with the extra eyes on the field, the standard of umpiring in general, and the Brownlow has gotten worse. Needs a touch up I reckon.

Think 45 votes will never be broken. 38 votes might never be broken.

Makes Bont's chances in 2025 much better. Think umps will get a talking to that you can't just give these guys votes for showing up.
yeah tonight is gonna lead to changes absolutely nobody is happy with whats happened

So Cripps and Daicos get a combined 83 votes.

Insane. Literally insane.

Umps credibility just took yet another huge leap backwards tonight. The worst count of all time. Cripps is fantastic, but he ain't that good. Not even close.

The AFL just killed the golden goose. Dull count and clear there are players like Cripps and Daicos who are marked down for at least 2 before the ball is bounced....if only Bont was given the same treatment.

Is 7 the greatest margin to 2nd of all years?

Lachie Neale won by 10 in 2020. Dangerfield won by 9 in 2016. I'll keep searching through

Edit: Ablett by 8 in 2009. Bartel by 7 in 2007. Judd by 7 in 2004. Harvey by 8 in 1998. Teasdale by 14 in the two voting system of 1977. Russ Smith by 7 in 1967. Gordin Collis by 8 in 1964. Alistair Lord by 9 in 1962. Roy Wright by 10 in 1954. Bunton by 8 in 1935. Bunton by 7 in 1932. Ivor Warne-Smith won by 4 in the single vote for BOG days of 1926 and 3 in 1928.

Dusty beat Danger by 3 in 2017 but beat the next eligible player by 11.

Coincidence that it’s Carlton and Collingwood and this seedy little man who has taken over as CEO it only interested in dollars and big crowds. The medium and smaller clubs don’t get a look in. I mean two nominated goals of the year were Collingwood, and the winner last year Collingwood.

Meanwhile Bont fights off three defenders, turns and goals.

The AFL is just a wank fest for the big four clubs under this little man.

Friendly reminder, that the AFL sacked an umpire not to long ago, for being part of a Brownlow medal betting scandal. Given some very questionable votes tonight, and the fans trust being more and more eroded. One can't help to think if any of the current umpires have mates put on a sneaky bet for them money wise at the start of the year etc.? Been some very questionable voting the last 3 or so seasons. I mean if one umpire could almost get away with it, then....
Don't forget Andrew Dillon's own wife talking about Bontempelli's chances (or lack of) on the red carpet. Evidence that the big boss himself was happy to spill the details of the count before it happened to those close to him? Such integrity.

Yep, and you know that rule when it comes to spilling secrets. "Your best friend, also has another best friend". So even trusting someone close to you, they will likely let it slip at some point to someone else thinking they can trust them, who in turns passes it on to someone else they "trust". Before you know it, too many people know. Won't be long before we have the winner "leaked" before the count one day.

Even the military know they cant even tell their own family anything.

Did Cripps really get 5 votes for that West Coast game in round 23? Shambolic number of votes for someone who can’t kick.

Talia brothers somehow both "lose their phones"

In a normal court of law: "that is extremely suspicious, and often behavior of people with something to hide. Lets order text records from the companies"

The AFL: "They lost their phones? Too bad. Seek access to messages? Nah! What if we find something and damage our brand? Lets just bury it since no one can come up with any dirt by themselves. Nothing to see here, we are satisfied we did everything we cough can."
