Yeah likewise, we were in Europe for six weeks.
Did you forget last year when we beat geelong in geelong and sydney in sydney and we didnt just beat them we thrashed them.

Seems ok, but hard to know really. I wonder if we requested no games at Adelaide oval next year after this year’s efforts. One trip to Perth, one to Queensland, one to Adelaide, one to Darwin, one to Sydney, & one to Canberra isn’t too bad.

I did it when we sold our home games there, great trip if you go up for a week or so
Its a pissy little stadium with low capacity that mostly gets filled with feral cats, so I think they schedule interstate clubs and low membership melbourne teams there. The only large membership teams that play there this year are Dons and Richmond. Otherwise its 5 interstate teams, Dogs, Saints and Dees.
Im guessing the larger Melbourne clubs play there once in a blue moon.
Pretty good for the cats as the smaller melbourne teams are often lower on the ladder, and interstate teams are always easier to tackle away. Combine that with their weird ground shape, and no wonder they dont often drop home games. Sets them up to finish in finals
Probably one of the better fixtures in recent years. The Geelong home game is expected but come next year they wouldn't have beaten us there in 2 years.

The final block of games are very winnable. If we correct our sluggish starts to the year we should be finishing top 4, considering we weren't far away this year while dropping a couple of games we were expected to win.

Pretty happy with our fixture for the most part. Not the easiest, nor is it the hardest. Happy with the double ups for the most part. Brisbane and Essendon were high on my wish list to play twice. Good to see we finally get a game up north for our QLD fans. Opening few weeks of the fixture is pretty tough, a bit or travel and some quality opponents. Lots of night games, and prime time slots. Have a very good run home in Melbourne against teams we should be competitive against.
The downsides. We do travel around a fair bit. Despite getting a home game at the G, we still only play there twice overall. Always hoped we can get a third game there. Still no Adelaide twice. No double ups against any of the big drawing teams, unless you still count Essendon these days. Lack of day games with only two inside the first 15 weeks, so not so family friendly. And the usual, always get Geelong in Geelong. Long gaps between our last matches vs the Eagles and the Demons last season to the next, as we do not play either until the final 3 rounds.
Overall fairly balanced fixture. Don't see any runs of easy or hard games, so keeps it honest.

GMHBA holds 40,000 these days - that is a lot more than the Gabba and not far off the SCG. 6000 tickets are made available for visiting teams - only Hawthorn maxxed out their allocation last year.
Plus we are going for a hat trick of wins in Geelong next year - just a shame it is a Thursday night making it impossible for me to get to after work.
Thge geelong home game fixture for 2023 and 2024 looks very similar to the 2025 one. Interstate teams (no wonder they dont fill up 6K seats) plus smaller vic teams and maybe 1 or 2 larger vic teams.
Not Dogs related but you just knew when North announced they were selling 2 home games to WA that there was a side deal with the AFL to not also give them an away game against either the Eagles or Freo.
In 2024 every team played an away game in WA, and a couple of teams had away games against both WA clubs. In 2025 every single team other than North play away games in WA but somehow they are exempted.

Coming from the UK I’ll never understand why the fixture is such a thing. It’s still really bizarre to me that the integrity of a professional competition is allowed to be undermined. The notion of clubs haggling with the governing body over who and where they play is ridiculous. If you play a team home one year, play them away the next. It’s not difficult.
No one can tell whether a fixture is a difficult or easy one at the moment, Richmond are the only guaranteed bad side. The last four years there’s been 3 or 4 changes to the eight each year and when you play a team throughout a season has a massive impact as well.

Weird the focus on us when there are plenty of other teams with harder fixtures on paper.
That'll change in 2026 apparently, as North will play in Melbourne and not Tassie.

I don't understand why they are attempting to play in Ballarat at all next year. Half the ground will be off limits and a construction site from March onwards through to 2026. Unless they aren't planning to start building the new stands from July onwards.
Sure, but not sure why they should be exempted in 2025?
Despite North selling 2 home games to WA and a further 2 home games to TAS in 2025, and despite North playing only 13 games in VIC to our 14, we will actually spend 10 additional minutes on airplanes this year compared to them*. Sure they have to make 3 additional trips to Tullamarine but is pretty much offset by our "travel" to Ballarat (twice) and Geelong (once) which they don't have to do.
* This doesn't hold if we go direct from Perth (Round 4) to Adelaide (Round 5, Gather Round) without coming back to Melbourne).
Ignoring the interstate "home games" and gather round, North play genuine interstate away games in Sydney, Canberra, Launceston and Adelaide (twice). We also have the Sydney and Canberra away trips but in place of Launceston and Adelaide (twice) we get Perth, Darwin and Brisbane. Its not the biggest fixture inequality, but they have managed to sell a bunch of games interstate without really incurring the travel impacts.
