Can lock in the filth for Good Thursday, April 17th.

Love to smash ‘em after attending both matches against them this year

We had a terrible traveling fixture this season.
2x WA
3x SA

All the Melbourne game times were shit for travelling down there to watch a game
Hopefully we do a bit better on that front.
Bolded bit in particular was pretty rough and I don't think any other team in the whole comp got this.

It's wild to get away games against all 4 teams in the one season and I'd be surprised if it's ever happened before.

Even though we went 3-1-1 in those games which is a pretty good result.

My only real item I check for when it comes to the fixture is to make sure we don’t play at Ballarat…

We haven’t played there since 2019 so I’m not concerned. We have the second biggest non-Victorian team following in Melbourne (Sydney the biggest) and are at the top of our game so we aren’t getting a game out at Ballarat.

We played there in 2021. I know because I went out there and froze, and copped horrible rain. Zero stars.

Is that definitive regarding Sydney having the bigger supporter base in Melbourne?

News to me if so.

At every event, GF parade, Captains Run, GF itself, it looked to me that Lions had way bigger support which to me wouldn’t be surprising given South Melbourne moved to Sydney in 81 compared to Fitzroy’s merger in 96.

Genuinely interested to know if that is fact what you said.

If they want to keep the Opening Round in the northern states, taking into consideration where all teams finished and then their respective preseasons, I would assume it would be something like:

Sydney v Hawks/Geelong
Us v Hawks/Geelong (whoever Sydney don't get).
GC v Collingwod
GWS v Carlton

I wouldn't mind the Hawks but I doubt they'll give it to us. Reckon it might be the Cats on a Friday night.
Would be very happy to get either Hawthorn or Geelong first up. Two exceptionally well coached teams, they will come armed with a game plan they will have likely spent months devising to beat us.

To that end, it is quite likely they will indeed beat us, and it will pretty much be worth giving up the 4 points to go to town on that game to understand where and how we need to improve to contend again in 2025.

Altho obviously I will still want to win when I rock up to the Gabba that night 😁

I feel like we only just scratched the surface of our best football in the finals series. Call me crazy, but feel like our best is yet to come.

Its like they finally realised how good they are.
And add to that I think we finally worked out how to get the best out of Will Ashcroft and how to bring him into the game which only bodes well for the future.

We have lost 4 of our last 5 opening rounds being Blues (G), Power (A/O), Swans (G), Hawks (MCG).
The only win was Power at the Gabba.
So, i would like to play someone in the middle to bottom teams for the first round away.
It will still be a hard game to win.
Percentage of all the teams that finished 9th to 15.
(9th) 102.5, 111.9, 93.5, 99.4, 99.1, 98.5, (15th) 99.1

Not definitive but Sydney are generally regarded as having the biggest since the biggest crowds involving a non-vic team are majority against Sydney.

It’s definitely a two horse race that I’m honestly not fussed about coming second in. It is definitely not a fact, just a vibes thing.

You say our double ups be based on how the AFL corrupts the draw for teams they want to win more.

Top 6 Swans and Cats or Hawks.. As they want GWS and Port to win.
Swans I say get a killer draw as they not want them to be smashed in another GF.
Middle 6 dogs, Freo and saints.. They need Pies, Bombers and Blues to win
Botton 6 Suns and Demons/Crows. As they want Tigers, North and Eagles to win more
Tigers I bet will get the draw from heaven.

After the draw came out last year, we apparently had the toughest draw according to foxsports.
Fair enough when you were runners up in a very close result.
I think we can expect to have something similar in 2025
It will be a tough comp in 2025 and easy enough for those in the 8 to fall out of the 8 next year.

There is no tough draw when your the best 👍

Syd have had well over 10k Vic members for several years, think we only just cracked it this year.

I was only just thinking that the other day reflecting back to the start of the year when I thought we were really in for it with that draw and now to have won it on the back of that draw show how meritorious our flag victory was say unlike Collingwood last year who had a soft draw and like the last 10 in a row at the MCG.
