Jones, Hogan, Daniels
Stringer, Cadman, Greene

… mouthwatering…

With Riccardi on the bench/chopping ruck

That looks like a rather good forward line to me.
You could add Brown who looked good at training to that bench.Another year of being in the system should help him more than your average AFL player who has kicked a fooy since they could walk.

Derkson at 23 is another one with seasoned AFl body in reserve. Also I forgot Wardius who has also put on some kgs and has had some some good internal reviews.

Mcmullin is another one.I can't remember seeing him training specifically but I did see a few similar with a light brown mullet.Maybe top up or train on players. There were a few I think etc..I get young guys with that light brown mullet look confused.Haha Anyone else same?

At the end of the day we are stacked in forwards and backs.Probably the best in comp in these areas..Mids are our issue compared to the best midfields in the comp .Hopefully our mids have career years. Then sky's the limit.

Just reading those comments, I realise that I have been guilty of forgetting about Callum Brown when I think of the best squad we could put out. The first third of last season he was excellent. Until his unfortunate suspension (unfortunate, because I am quite certain he wasn't trying to hurt his opponent), he was outstanding in that fast medium forward role.

If he can get back to that level, he would certainly be another useful option. He would be a good sub IMHO. Coming in with speed to burn could help our attack late in games, and he can cover a number of positions.

Thanks for the report, Vic pokiesmon and the reminder about Brown.

So, potentially a dark horse in line for a forward line position if Kingers is being truthful! Kingers also confirmed that Stringer will have a spot in the forward line in opening round.

GWS coach Adam Kinglsey has flagged second-year forward Phoenix Gothard as a player he suspects will "be pushing hard" for a spot in the Giants' side in 2025. When questioned on the fringe forwards who are pleading their case this summer, Kingsley noted Gothard as a standout.

"We've got some emerging guys who we think are going to be really good players... [the forward line] is difficult to break into," Kingsley said on Friday. "Phoenix Gothard is one name that comes to mind who has been really good across the pre-season so far. He missed a lot of games last year through injury but towards the back end came on and started to show glimpses of being that player we drafted. With another pre-season under his belt he's performed really strongly, I expect him to be pushing hard (for a debut). There's a bunch of other guys who are pushing their case and then there's the new guys who have come in, they're not going to wait for anyone."

While competition for spots will be high, Kingsley sees Stringer having no issue slotting into a role and causing headaches for the opposition quickly. "We'll find a spot for him, he kicked 42 goals last year," the Giants coach added. "He'll work within our forward line and play the role that we need him to play, whatever the game dictates. We think he's a difficult match-up deep. We think him getting the ball through the midfield with his skill, his power and his speed can help us play the brand that we want to play."

I’m all in on James Leake! Sounds like he performed well against Tom Green.

Will be following any news you have for him!

I’ll try to get my boy Harvey Thomas back, I love the way he goes about it but feel Leake could be anything right now especially in a midfield role.

Leake and Rowston will be those next guys through the mid.
I reckon Gothard will get an early run due to Thomas suspension but he'll come straight back in after that.

Paraphrasing highlights from the article (due to rules on limited copy of content):

  • teams were evenly split for talent, 2 x 20 minute halves
  • 4 main Giants – Stephen Coniglio, Kieren Briggs, Toby Bedford and Finn Callaghan – weren’t involved in the match as they carefully managed their pre-season preparations
  • at first bounce, James Leake was in attendance and matched up on Tom Green
  • Leake was alongside Harry Rowston, Josh Kelly and Nic Madden for one side, while Green, Xavier O’Halloran, Toby McMullin and Lachie Keeffe were on the other side
  • forward line set-ups were: Greene, Stringer, Jake Riccardi and Harvey Thomas versus Jesse Hogan, Aaron Cadman, Darcy Jones and Brent Daniels
  • Daniels looked even quicker around the stoppages and a step ahead of his teammates
  • Stringer and Greene worked well in tandem, moving into space and creating separation for each other where possible. Riccardi was also then able to fill in those pockets and take some strong marks
  • Jones led the way with pressure, creating some turnovers on the back of his awareness and ability to close down space, while Thomas got on the scoreboard after earning a holding-the-ball decision in the forward 50
  • Cody Angove, playing predominantly on the wing, wasn’t afraid to get forward and ensured the defence had no time to easily get the ball out of their half
  • Harry Rowston was a clearance machine out of the midfield, while also displaying some fantastic ball use further up the field
  • Leake combined really nicely with Rowston and Kelly, used the ball well
  • Toby McMullin was another around the midfield that looks to have taken a big step up this pre-season
  • Joey Delana and Joe Fonti were also mentioned; Phoenix Gothard too, but more from the perspective of Kingers talking him up
  • notably, Conor Stone wasn't mentioned (indeed, apart from the comment on Fonti, the only other back mentioned was Jack Buckley matching up on Jesse Hogan).

Rowston would have to be short odds to play in rd 1.

Lachlan Mckirdy has been a great addition to the afl scene in Sydney.Need a few more of him...He must have seriously good eyes to provide this level of analysis from where we could all watch the match sim though.Surely got help from assistant coaches or somebody within in my opinion.

I loved this bit. I have been nervous about whether Stringer being there would lead to some forwards getting in each others way. Seems like they are working hard on that. Exciting
