How far off do you think Gallop is Nunez ? He's only 19.

I'm going cold on Allen. Whether it's just his body language or not he's just not moving as if he's ever going to get the ball. The fact that he's Captain of the club and can't seem to nail down a deal with them is also not positive.

Maybe reading too much into it . But if not having a good option down there costs us a flag this year we'll bite the bullet on somebody. Then again if we win it or get close as we are maybe we'll look internally as to when Gallup can impact. Presently if Hipwood gets injured we're just about out of tickets. Morris is still a kid and his form could fluctuate.

Not this year, but I reckon Gallop could feature a lot next year with a year of VFL development and a second pre season under his belt.

I can't believe Rayner would do this after everything I've done for him in the Rayner mainboard thread. I'm disgusted and have called the club to express my anger.
Our Dan will be delighted. Not only is Rayner a dud, he is disloyal as well.

Agreed. At worst, stick with Day, Fort and Smith this year + get some games into Gallop. Do the same next year unless you can get say JUH really cheap on a short-term deal. Otherwise, if it isn't working by end of next year, bring in Lewis for basically nothing if Hawks want to play hardball this year.

We do NOT want JUH. Disaster waiting to happen.

I would love if we could get him right with our culture, but the chance we can’t remains and it will be Fev all over again, but 10x worse. Not worth the risk.

If Bont refuses to play with you there are obviously issues there that are not suitable for the public consumption.

As someone who Bont also refuses to play with, ouch. :(

I’m actually coming around to JUH. Strong First Nations leaders at the club with Charlie and Callum, as well as Chris Johnson on our board who is also Gunditjmara from Western Vic. He’d have the support around him, and the distractions (and negative influences) of those in Melbourne removed. It could work for player and club.

The issue is compensation to the Dogs. Given the issues this year, if we could walk out of it for a second rounder (e.g. free agency compo for Starc if he chose to exercise his rights) then it’s a risk worth taking so long as we’ve learnt our lesson on dishing out big contracts to unwanted players.

He’s not a great second ruck, but if he’s able to work through his issues he’s got a higher ceiling than Allen as a key forward. If it fell over and it didn’t work, it would be a bit of cap space and a pick who likely wouldn’t play whilst we are so strong. It’s not as if his behaviour has impacted teammates performance around him, more their trust which means they’d likely want him to seek a fresh start anyway.

At the end of the day, he’s still a very young man that could benefit from a fresh start. I hope he’s able to turn his attitude and commitment around as he has fantastic potential.

I think the issues are a lot deeper than attitude and commitment.

But no doubt someone will take him on if the Dogs players don't come around.

Wouldn't be adverse to JUH coming here, but would be totally fine if we let that one through to the keeper as well. Don't think the Lions are on JUH's radar in any case but who knows.

Only way I see JUH as a possibility is if the Contract is very heavily favoured to the club.
We do not need another Fevola situation

I guess on the plus side the white powder in Brisbane is god-awful so maybe that is enough reason for him to stay clean.

Or so I’m told at least, the only white powder I’ve been involved with is Wizz Fizz

Ralphy's written an absolute pearler about how the Hawks can 'easily satisfy' the Eagles for Harley Reid, suggesting that Carlton's first rounder, a future first and a player could make it happen.

Some of the players Ralphy lists as possibilities (lol):

  • Ned Reeves
  • Sam Frost
  • Worpel
  • Connor McDonald
  • Will McCabe
  • Sam Butler
  • James Blanck
  • Henry Husthwaite
I think with the 'the Hawks will get all da players' type traid reporting we are seeing we need to take into account how dumb the footy media are and how uncritically they will repeat the crap fed to them by clubs.

The trade offer that Ralphy is suggesting here is functionally the same one that the Dees turned down from Adelaide for old mate Petty. Lol.

Mitch is getting the old a new genius has just arrived on the footy scene treatment from the media. Great coach , can get hold of any player he wants , establishing a new dynasty etc. Already the Premiership favourites apparently.

Mitch is actually really good and eats and sleeps footy 24 hours a day but they're getting a little bit ahead of themselves.

Still ,turning up with Barrass and Battle in the backline this year has put them in serious contention.

I have a watch on Barrass. Can't get a game where he got rinsed by old man Jack Riewoldt out of my head.

Im also not convinced the Chol and smalls forward line will be sustainable across the year. Even if Dear or Lewis return neither are actually proven players. the whole forward line is honestly pretty flaky.
Nah it's time ... been way too long since the Hawks' last flag so 'tis destiny, the narrative, the vibe, and such nay saying will not be tolerated (especially by the umpires in a close final!)

It’s actually amazing that as defending premiers…we are being underrated and flying under the radar. Keep blowing smoke up Hawthorn all the media wants. We can just teach everyone a lesson when it really matters. You don’t win the premiership in March.
