I think there is a reason chappy hasn't moved to wing yet that we don't know about, especially if there has been the other defenders that even pushed him out to be sub last week. Even coming on as sub, I know he started fwd and didn't impact before moving back. Not sure he had any stint on the wing though. If not, maybe it was the game to try it

Maybe his tank ATM isn't up to it, as even I think JL asked was asked last year whether chappy could move inside but he said was more suited to wing

I can’t help but feel that Aish may be in a Conca situation, a few games off of hitting a trigger for a couple years and our list management don’t want him hitting that trigger
Would be pretty ordinary by the club if so, think he more than deserves a couple more years given what he has contributed since he's been here - seems like a good way to get a bad reputation for any potential future recruits as well, knowing the club will try to screw you over on any triggers in your contract.

I feel like there was talk of him doing a pre season as a wing either last year or the year before.

He looks to me like the perfect wing. Good height and mark, great in the contest and a tidy kick. Crazy that Worner was playing wing last week. So he must be underdone after an interrupted off season.

Him moving to a permanent defensive wing role lets Draper take his old taller halfback role

Will be really annoyed if this does end up as another Conca situation. Aish is the perfect player you want to keep around as depth who can slot into multiple roles easily and bring some experience to the team. Much more worthwhile keeping him than persisting with Worner. He actually has had plenty of games where he’s been a major part of the win.

Should really be much closer to the 22 than he is.

Really? I never got that impression watching him before Hawks.
Yes, really. D'Ambrosio has always been regarded as a great kick.

He won a rising star with Essendon and said so himself ... "They are backing me to play to my strengths. My strengths are decision making and kicking".

His Essendon bio says "Armed with a penetrating left boot, D’Ambrosio will look to ensure he becomes a primary ball mover for the Dons going forward." Then the idiots lost him.

I don't think field kicking skills can be improved much by an AFL club apart from increasing fitness/experience that leads to less fatigue and better decisions when kicking. Maybe set shot routine can be improved to become a better kick on goal. Some really poor kicks might be able to improve to ordinary or play within their limitations. But kicking skills are mostly set by the time someone is a teenager.

Though coaches and game plan can give a skilled player more opportunity to showcase their kicking more.

What with all this Sam Mitchell worship ?
He hasn’t won anything yet and had a blessed draw last year.
Y’all carry on like he’s some ****ing genius. Leave that to the VFL media they do enough of it.
Yeah. He was on field coaching as a captain & he made Simpson look good at the Eagles.
He good

need to have more self respect. can’t be fawning over a grub who took sniping shots at our stars every chance he got. he’s a disgusting player and arrogant coach. worshipping him as a dockers supporter is just embarrassing.
You don't have to like the guy to respect his ability.

Carey was a great player and a **** bloke. You can have two characteristics.

"According to what I’ve gathered, from a knowledgeable industry source (not willing to be on record), Warner is still undecided between staying and heading home to either West Coast or Fremantle, but his call will not be shaped at all by what happens with Allen or Reid."

Aish has played 101 games for us. More than twice the next highest games played for a team in his career.

Dynastic footy bloodlines too. FS qualification secured already.

100 games or not he’s in our best 28 or so players still IMO. He should be emergency most weeks if we don’t have injuries in his position.

Can’t help thinking we’re freezing him out because he’s not best 22 and turns 30 this year and basically no other reason.

No reason whatsoever he couldn’t be rolled over on one year deals until someone else is able to provide the depth required. If they think Worner is that player than god help us.

I'm still in my heart of hearts hoping Chappy eventually gets moved into the midfield.

I genuinely struggle to see why Aish is behind Worner. From my own eye-test Aish should be ahead.
I don't see any evidence this is likely.

Preseason did not feature Chapman in the midfield.

He was played as sub last game when he may have been a plausible inclusion to the midfield rotation.

Worner was preferred, not only in Chapman's usual position, but also in the wing rotation.

In the interview Brierty did on ABC's Sports Talk on Saturday he was asked about Chapman's selection as well as his omission from the team in Round 1 by Peter Bell (who is one of the panellists).

Maybe interesting was that in the preface to the question Bell mentioned that Brierty would already be familiar from selection committee discussion last season that there was a want to try Chapman in a midfield role.

Surely a that desire to move a player to a new position begins in preseason?

I think they do it a little bit in the 2024 pre-season (reference in the article) and he got an injury before Rd 1 so maybe that stifled the plans.

I still think chapmans best role is as a versatile half back that can defend, intercept and rebound. I don't get the reluctance to try give him continuity there.

A few games in and it's still unclear who we should prioritise this off-season, Warner or Pickett.

The absence of Young has really exposed our midfield depth as Serong/Brayshaw have not been able to lift in his absence. Warner is not a ball winner but he does make our midfield more dangerous.

The awful forward pressure, goal kicking accuracy and crumbing has also highlighted the need for another small forward. Pickett would make our forwardline that much stronger.
