The way it could be seen as remotely achievable:

Out 2.4m per year
Player, Salary (estimate, low), years
Worner 300
Delean 250
O Mac 250
OMeara 400 + 400
Sonny 400
Banfield 300 +300
Aish 300
Fyfe 400
Brodie 300 + 300

Delist 2025 2.4m (+ 2026 1m)
(some conservative salaries)

2025
Out 2.4m
In 2.55m per year
Kosi 800
Chad 1m
3 x draft 750k
2.55m
Issues:
Kosi and Chad will likely want more based on the new TPP
Shuffle some deals
Brayshaw $ will be key and what we signed Bolton for.

2026
Out 1m
In 750k
3 x draft 750k (inc NGA)

Depth will be the potential issue if we cull experience for rookies, but:
DEF
Davies
Draper
Murphy

MID
Johnson
Ras
Simpson
Reid

FWD
Voss
Nicholls
Carr

RUCK
Reidy
Riddle
I like your thinking but in reality this kind of thing never really happens in the AFL, where 6 or 7 scrubs are kicked off the list so that a team with an already bulging list of well paid players can load up on an extra A grader or two.

Also your salary guesses are definitely well off in a few cases there.
Jack Delean would be on minimum chips. Around $95k per year with no match payments as he hasn’t played an AFL game yet.

Worner should be on nothing more than about $120k pa plus match payments for whatever games he plays, having come off a rookie list contract, would be about $5k per game on top of base for each game those guys play at AFL level. If Worner is really on $300k base salary (highly unlikely) someone in the club needs to be committed to a mental institution for signing off on a deal like that.

On the other hand I reckon you are significantly understating what the likes of Aish, JOM and even Brodie are earning. All former first round picks that have been on big money all their careers. The only way that may be correct is if they had front ended deals (eg JOM came over on say, $600k per annum for 4 years. Paid $800k pa for the first 2 years then $400k pa for the years 3 and 4.) This kind of thing is common but the truth is none of us have any real idea of things like this unless it’s leaked by an agent for some reason, which actually happens quite a bit.

I'd be staggered if JOM wasn't front ended

Hawks were paying atleast the first year AND he came when we lost Logue, Lobb, Tucker. (2 contracted and money clearly set aside for Logue)

It was the perfect time to front load some deals and he was a fresh one coming in, he is also 31 by the start of next season so should be winding down money wise

It’s also not really worth the risk. We traded Shultz & a few 2nd rounders for Bolton. If instead we got the option of getting rid of 5 of our best depth in Banfield, JOM, Wagner, Aish, Voss. That’s 60-70 games in 2024 off the top of my head. Replace 50 of those games with lesser depth and we get worse, even with an A grader.

I know the trade dream is 5 spuds for a gold nugget but not sure the salary / depth risk - reward would pay off for a contending team unless you had replacements already or could get them cheaper than a 1st year player.
