Swans would match any deal. Mitch has no idea about list management.
It depends where Swans are in 2 years time.
At some point, they will drop off.

By front loading contracts, they can basically pay less than the 95% in real terms and more than the 105% when the time comes. Just gotta stop players requesting trades when they are on the low years of their contract or hold firm.Clubs have a very tight range in which they have to operate from a salary cap perspective.
95% floor. Bank that five percent. Can pay 105% another year.
10% difference in cap max between all clubs in the current year. In 2025, that's $1,770,000. That's enough to buy anyone.
Most clubs will float with $850,000 between the largest salary cap spend and the least. Whether they have a team full of guns or 34 first contract draftees and 2 senior players being paid $7m each that year.
That will be the same in 2027. The factor that changes is that Tasmania enters the conversation and they can take him as an uncontracted player - as an unrestricted free agent, even though he is restricted. They can walk him to Tasmania with up to a million dollars extra signing bonus and most of their list spots taken up by players earning under $200k a year.
Tasmania can defeat both WC and Freo in terms of money because they aren't starting with an existing squad. They can build their plans for their team off the assumption they have Warner for $4m a year.

Yep,The other option is to back end details, like Richmond did with Lynch.
If we get Warner in 2 years, we could sign him on a 7 year deal, with a large amount of cash in the last 2 years knowing that by then a number of other players would have retired and our salary cap space should open again.
1 million per year for 5 years
2 million per year for 2 years.
Brayshaw will be 33 after 5 years, so cap space should be opening up. (Yes it is a risk, but I would think it would pay off most times providing you had a good chance of a 5 year premiership run)
If you think it's a certainly that a club will match a free agency bid, Mitch Cleary isn't the one that has no idea.Swans would match any deal. Mitch has no idea about list management.

It's been done maybe twice for Dangerfield and Cameron I think.
It's all going to be down to where the relative teams finish before matching is even considered. Even then there's still a chance it won't be.
Yeah he’s a bit of wildcard .Just need Hart to come from the clouds (not too hard) and we're set.
Well Ballas was working closely with Ryan Bizzell and Basil Hart this preseason. He has good resources to aid his development so the ball is in his court.Just need Hart to come from the clouds (not too hard) and we're set.
To be fair Danger and Cameron are probably the only RFA to move that are similar in value to Warner aren't they? You can say its been done maybe twice but they're also the closest comparisons to Warner trying to exercise RFA.If you think it's a certainly that a club will match a free agency bid, Mitch Cleary isn't the one that has no idea.

Impacted by free agency, but Dangerfield and Cameron were normal trades. To be fair Danger and Cameron are probably the only RFA to move that are similar in value to Warner aren't they? You can say its been done maybe twice but they're also the closest comparisons to Warner trying to exercise RFA.
Yeah so was Cameron right? In both cases the clubs opted to (or indicated it would) exercise rights to match contracts and keep player, thus forcing the trades? It was impacted by free agency, but Dangerfield was a normal trade.
Buddy went okayTo be fair Danger and Cameron are probably the only RFA to move that are similar in value to Warner aren't they?
Thanks. I updated my post.Yeah so was Cameron right? In both cases the clubs opted to (or indicated it would) exercise rights to match contracts and keep player, thus forcing the trades?
Why not to the boundary. At least the talls knock it over for a stoppage. So so dumbWe are killed in general field stoppages.
Not to mention Luke Ryan kicking to the corridor side of our talls down the line every damn time.
If his intention was to leave after the two years I am sure there would be a handshake agreement to let him walk if he chooses to before he signed on.Swans would match any deal. Mitch has no idea about list management.
I don't see how we'll compete salary wise in 2 years tbh unless someone good leaves.

Yeah he’s a bit of wildcard .
Especially as the position he plays is a desperate need for us
Outstanding at u16 level(yeah , yeah I know ) but being an indigenous lad there could well be other issues at play that have led to a drop off in his performances since then.
(I imagine others who watch juniors more closely would have a much more informed opinion)
He certainly has the talent so here’s hoping
The other common denominator is that it was to Geelong both times — the club widely thought to have players on “team friendly” contracts (plus farms and side gigs with cotton on).To be fair Danger and Cameron are probably the only RFA to move that are similar in value to Warner aren't they?
