Im not saying that isnt correct, what I am saying is they hadn't come up with a plan yet while being 99% sure they were moving on from him. 1% chance of retaining him is still a chance so deny interviews with other teams until the contract runs out.

They really want Johnson but are worried he says no (already did it last year to Washington) and since he can’t do anything until their eliminated you can be waiting till after the superbowl and most of top tier guys will be gone so doing their work now so they have a list of fall back options incase that happens.
