Because the bar is very low. Because he'll get his GM etc. The future QB will come. Long term stay, "guarantee me five years to turn this around". All fine as long as he isn't a total X and O wad, players hate him or he loses them a la Mike McDaniel.

The other thing that really hasn't been talked about is that it wouldn't surprise me if he got offered a massive deal with the Raiders, Davis has done it before to get Gruden.

Meanwhile Bears ownership is cheap.

If Johnson wants security on top of the opportunity to build it his way it's a no contest. A lot more goes into these decisions than just who has the better roster.

Or as some have suggested, Deion and Jerry faking interest to help get him an even bigger offer on an extension with Colorado .

Yeh, it’s definitely one situation where the Rooney rule would actually work in favour of both parties. Jerry ticks a box and Deion gets to add some $$$ to those negotiations with the regents in Boulder.

Ownership is stable in that they've got a group of people (including Mark Davis) who have a reasonably long track record of making heavy financial investments in the team. In the last decade Mark Davis spent significant capital on the following:

• upgrading the old facilities in Alameda in 2015
• Partial funding of Allegiant Stadium
• Funding of new facilities in Henderson, NV which are universally regarded as the best in the NFL
• A 100M contract for Jon Gruden which was a record at the time
• A 6 year 75 million contract for Josh McDaniels
• A willingness to pay close to 80M to buyout the remainder of McDaniels' and GM Dave Ziegler's contracts to have them no longer working for the Raiders

By no means did Mark get each one of these things correct - I'm merely pointing out that he's willing to put down significant capital in order to get what he wants done for the team. When you're comparing him to other owners, his willingness to spend does matter in context.

One thing to note about Allegiant Stadium: according to Billboard magazine's 2024 end of year report, it's the top stadium in the USA and #2 globally for live events. Just last year alone it drew 657,000 fans and $119M USD from 15 major events last year. And all of that money is going to the Stadium Events Company, which is owned by Mark Davis.

Then there's the Brady effect. He's running the show now. He's a massive unknown to us outsiders because there's no track record to judge him on outside of his playing career. This could go by the way of Michael Jordan in Charlotte, but it could also be a Jerry West scenario.

The HC in Vegas is also going to have a say in the GM. That is clearly not the case in Chicago, and is not yet the case in Jacksonville either. It's been reported that Johnson values organisational alignment from owner through GM and HC tremendously. This has the potential to be a leg up for Vegas.

No state income tax in Nevada either offsets any previous advantage Florida and Texas teams had compared to the Raiders, as well.

The biggest two obstacles I look at with the Raiders job are 1) not having a clear path to a QB and 2) being in the AFC West. However, for someone like Ben Johnson who is already competing in the toughest division in football, I don't see being in the AFC West as a deterrent. I have absolutely no idea what Brady has pitched to Johnson in terms of their plan for QB, but I imagine it involves a long runway whereby Johnson is going to have more than ample time to build the team as he sees fit, and not rushing to get a QB in year 1 at the expense of hindering other areas of the team.

One thing I've found interesting the last few days, Ian Rapoport reported Brady spoke with Johnson's agent for an hour or so last week pitching the Vegas job. I thought that was the pitch to make Johnson take the interview, but it's sounding like that conversation took place AFTER Johnson's virtual interview. Just an interesting tidbit.

I'm sure we'll find out more in the next week or so as more coaches become available to speak with in person.

Liam Coen finished his interview with the Jaguars a little over an hour ago. He seems to be one of, if not the favourite to get that job. I think he's got a great resume and I'm somewhat surprised his name hasn't generated more buzz in other landing spots.

They can't do face to face interviews til a coach is finished in the playoffs. Can only do 1 by zoom.

Does that matter though? In this instance, if permission is granted, Moore will now be thinking about the Cowboys gig in the week of our playoff game.

The season only goes from September to Feb - surely it's not too much to ask that coaches only be allowed to be approached once the season has concluded for all teams.

I think the initial virtual interviews are more a general chit chat than a presentation or anything. I don't think it's that big of a deal.

It won't change, it just seems crazy to me. Ben Johnson is obviously worse (albeit they had the week off at least). Lost essentially two days to discussions Friday and Saturday between 4 clubs.

You don't think he would be thinking about the possible job options even if interest wasn't formally declared by said clubs?
Clubs for the most part only put the slip in to declare formal interest once they've received word from the coach that they'd be interested in interviewing there in the first place.
