Yeah but he got there eventually and did what was required to make it right. Coen was their #1 choice and they got him. A failure of an offseason has turned around in 24 hours coz he wasn't a stubborn w***er like a lot of these NFL owners can be.

Well I don't think anyone in the league is looking at this and thinking Coen hasn't done anything but done the Bucs dirty. This is even worse than when McDaniels spurned the Colts at the altar, because Coen arranged the meeting with the Jaguars in secret.

I won't be surprised if he has a bit of trouble assembling a grade A1 staff, because his actions of the last 24 hours are one raging red flag with respect to his character.

He was always going to struggle to put together a A1 staff being a 1 year OC. No real change there.

See Bobby Slowik last year, everyone was talking him up, now he hasn't even got an interview with the offense going backwards for the Texans. If you dont strike while the iron is hot you might never get that chance again.

I wonder if teams are too focused on chasing the next hot young coordinator for their head coach. Of the top coaches in the league, sure, many were OCs or DCs before getting hired as a HC (McVay, McDermott, Quinn, Payton) but just as many weren't (Reid, Campbell, John Harbaugh, Jim Harbaugh). It isn't always about Xs and Os.

Look at Commanders. Old bern around the HC block before, Dan Quinn, has the know how and assembles great staff. That kind of hire not to be sneezed at...mccarthy, carroll....

Yeah, I get it from that perspective.

However, maybe he didnt want to say anything coz he genuinely wasn't sure if he was going to accept the Jags new offer? Wanted to make sure everything was right with the contract before committing and didn't want to lose the Bucs new OC offer if it wasnt right.

Bit of a no win situation.
